Why can't I access non-Flash fields in some online forms?

Thankfully I'm able to access the fields on this Apple Support Forum. Unfortunately I've encountered a fair number of other online forms for which I can't access some of the fields from any browser, with any user agent, from any iOS device and it's really dampening the whole "iWww" experience. In fact even this Apple Support Message field is crippled since there doesn't seem to be any way to leverage the text formatting buttons. Flash I could care less about, but what's going on with these seemingly standard web fields? Is this the future of the Apple iWww experience?

Hi,

Do you have the URL of a form you can't use? There are different ways of making editable text fields and if the person coding the site doesn't use the right one, it won't work. But without looking at the source code of a page with a problematic form, it's hard to say what's going on.

I'm not sure what you mean about the fields here, though. If you want bold, just highlight your word and click the "B" button. Same with italics and underlines. I double-tap on a word to highlight it.

I'm having this same problem. Here is the URL: http://classroom.phoenix.edu/afm211/secure/post!default.jspa?forumID=2025057&rep lyMessageID=84798342&messageID=84798342

It's a University of Phoenix discussion forum so you probably can't access it. The problem is that I need to type into the field and I can't get a cursor to appear. If I'm persistent the iPad asks me if I want to copy that section.

I'd be grateful for a solution.

Hi,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

You are correct, I'm not able to access those forums. For those forums, 'd suggest contacting the University of Phoenix and letting them know of the problems you're having. I'm sure there must be a technical support email address.

Interestingly enough, it appears to me like they're using the same Jive Software that the Apple Discussions uses, though apparently with some differences.
