when I charge my Ipad I just get the apple picture and no charge. After charging for hours every once in a while the red battery pops up bu then returns to the apple.

When I charge my I pad I just get the apple sign and not a charge. After hours of charging sometimes I might get a slight red battery but then it returns back to the apple sign. I am using the correct battery.

What version iPad do you own? When you say you're using the correct battery, should that have said, correct battery charger? As in the iPad specific 10W wall charger?

I would first reboot your iPad. Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for about 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad should restart.

Try charging again (with the 10 W Wall Charger). If it does not charge, you could have a defective cable, or charger. If you own an iPhone, replace the iPhone cable (not charger) with your iPad charger and try again. If that doesn't work, you may have a defective charger. Also, make absolutely certain y.ou are attaching the 30 pin connector completely

I have a ipad 2. I have the 10W wall charger.

I did try to reboot the ipad by holding both keys down and the Apple logo did appear but the Ipad would bot restart.

I do own a Iphone and tried charging earlier by switching out the cables and not the charger. In fact in the apple home we have three i-phones and have tried muliple cables with no luck.

Thanks for your help.

That doesn't sound good at all.

Since the Reset didn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Well, as I indicated earlier, the conditions don't sound good. This is my last try. If this doesn't help, you're going to have to contact Apple. If it gets down to that, the ideal situation is that there is an Apple store within reasonable driving distance. Make an appointment with the resident "Genius." Good luck.
