So after one month of ownership I had my Ipad stolen from my hotel room. Sense it was connected to mobile-me, I was able to lock the device, but I am sure it has been wiped by now. Does anyone know if apple can do anything? I would think that the serial number is detected in the sync process, so if anyone adds it to there itunes account it would be visible, but I am probably out of luck. Any ideas?
1) Report it to the police and keep a copy of the police report.
2) Talk to the hotel manager. A lot of hotels will say you leave items in the room at your own risk, but they need to know you hold them responsible. The manager 'may' cover the loss or the at least deductable. If not, go over their heads to the regional manger. Maybe the hotel's insurance will cover it. They will resist, because it makes them look bad.
3) Your homeowners insurance may cover it. Ask your agent. Deductable will apply and a claim could affect future premiums.
4) Your credit card used to purchase it may cover it. Read your contract.
5) Theft loss is tax deductable so keep the police report for the 2010 tax season.
Sounds like an "inside" job. You should have slid it between the mattress and box spring while you were out.

I just had my iPad jacked about 2 hours ago ***. I had just gotten home, checked the mailbox. Cosmopolitan, lol. Opened front door, dogs came running out. Went to grab iPad from bedroom to use for 5 mins while dogs did their duty. came back outside, dogs had run around the corner and down into the backyard. In the 1.5 minute time window, while I was retrieving the dogs from the backyard to the front again, the mailman had come, seen my iPad sitting on the bench on the front porch, saw my car in the driveway but wanted to steal it anyway.... so he knocked softly on my front door (I only had the front glass door closed; the main solid door was open. When no one answered he opened the door, yanked my ATL flat brim and my iPad from the bench. I came back to the front of the yard to find both the solid door and the glass door wide open, iPad missing. There was mail in the mailbox. (P.S.-- I have a U-shaped driveway, with the mailbox set back from the street, on driveway in front of house, 7 ft from porch). ***...
@Marlboroman100 - I call BS on you. You say the mailman looked in and saw your iPad, that he knocked softly, then opened the door, stole your stash and ran?
And you came back and found the stuff missing?
How in Baby Geebus' name did you know he looked in, that he knocked, and stole the items, when you didn't actually see him? Just because mail was delivered?
