I just installed this new version and it works pretty well. It says it will work over the internet but so far I've only got it to work on my wifi.

I have got an EyeTV on my Mac at home and can watch the TV on my iPad both over the local network (flawlessly) and the internet (with variable picture quality).

I imagine your card will be fairly similar. Give it a go over the internet and you've got another great use for your iPad.

Heheh! I was always out of luck getting those TV tuners to work properly when I used Windows in the past.
This seems like a very cool application. I've been thinking about getting an external TV tuner for my MBP, but it would need to support CableTV, particularly Comcast. Otherwise it's useless to me, as local TV channel reception is poor in my area.

To make it work over the internet you may need to configure your router and add the appropriate port forwarding setting.

Usually, enabling uPnP (Universal Plug-and-Play) on both your router and PC should be good enough to make it work.

FYI - the update to Comcast's Xfinity TV iPad app (update due out next month) will include a ton of TV content. Basically everything that you can get on XfinityTV.com (as long as you're a TV subscriber)... including HBO, etc.

Slingbox + App for iPad which is now out today but have not tried it.

Any feedback on quality of these options? I'm debating the Elgato vs Sling option. TV tuner cards have been a royal PITA over the years and even last year trying to get Orb working with my iPhone it was a disaster. I'm thinking find a used Slingbox Solo and for less then 130 bucks for box and app I'm done. So far seems the cheapest and easiest to deal with. I've been happy with the iPhone Slingplayer app a co worker has let me try out so hoping the iPad version will have as good of quality while on 3g.

In my opinion, nothing can beat the ease-of-use and ease-of-setup of a Slingbox. I know that's going to spark some controversy, but it's just my opinion.

I don't think leaving a PC on all day to stream the content is a viable option for me. I have a feeling it would significantly increase my electric bill.

There are a lot of great deals for Slingboxes now. Just the other day, Office Max had a Slingbox Solo for only $80.

And the streaming quality is amazing. I'm playing with the iPad app now. Remote streaming, this thing looks better than the dedicated app on my MBP. I've yet to try it on 3G, but from a few other commenters, it's supposed to look great. Just make sure that your upload speed at home is adequate. Mine is just under 1Mbps, which work well for remote streaming.

In-network use is unbelievable. I can't tell the difference between the stream and regular DVR use.

Another vote for the new Sling Media player for iPad,
it just looks great over wifi, and the guide is well done too.

Requires 4.2 and I use a Solo on the cable box.

I just ordered the Sling Box Pro-HD, get it Saturday. It will be mainly used on wifi at home so I'm looking forward to my new purchase and the new app. I have big hope for it.

thanks for the info on Slingbox. Are there any good video/TV streaming apps? I like the ABC app but not about other programs
