Safari closing with new tab opening
I can open a new tab and safari will close before tab has finished opening and iPad will revert to home screen. May have as few tabs opened a
s 2.

Try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
