IPad keyboard

I know this may be very basic but what do I do to move around on the screen? I'm used to the arrow keys and the iPad keyboard doesn't have them. Touching screen to move cursor is not too accurate when composing messages.

Mac/iPad/iPodtouch, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Touching the screen is all you have. Not sure why you say that is not too accurate, hold down your finger in the message and you will get a magnifying glass then move the insertion cursor anywhere you want in your message.
