Understanding Email on iPad

I would appreciate it if someone could confirm for me that when I'm using the iPad mail feature it not only downloads new email into my iPad but if I delete a downloaded message, iPad will synchronize my "deleted" message back to my main email account, i.e. Yahoo, g-mail, etc. Initially, i was thinking that any deleting of emails in my iPad affected only the content in my iPad and did not affect my email account.

The email behavior on the iPad's email app depends upon the type of mail account (IMAP or POP) and how you have it set up. POP accounts down load emails from the server to the computer and they can be set up on when to delete them from the server. Deleting the emails from the server is controlled via the advanced setting in the email account. IMAP accounts are preferred for use on multiple devices since what you do on one device is fed back to the server so you can see it on other devices.

You can usually tell the type of account by looking a the type of outgoing server in the account information. a POP account will have pop in the servers name. I think an IMAP will have imap in its name.
