Is there a way to make safari stop enlarging the google search bar when I open a new page? It kind of annoys me since I usually just type an address

I've been wondering this for a long time as well. Hopefully it'll be altered in iOS 4 but other than that theres nothing we can do

Doesn't really annoy me that much, but I would much rather if it didn't. Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely white to apple :)

It definitely annoys me. I noticed it on the first day I had my iPad and haven't been able to stand it yet. The default should definitely be the URL bar or Apple should at least give us an option. 90% of the time when I open the new page I am going to a specific URL and not searching so it really gets old having to tap the URL bar every time.

Hmm, interesting.

I assume that general consumers use the search bar 80% of the time or more.

"Who can remember that alphabet soup of HPPT's and WWX's with all those dots and the backslashes and the semicolons..."

I'm with you on the flipside typing URL's more than searching, but I don't think that's the norm.
