Anyone using the iPad case and Zagg shield have this happen?

I have the Zagg full body shield and the Apple iPad case. I have had the iPad in the case for a couple weeks. Tonight I decided to take the iPad case off to clean both from dust, etc... that seemed to be accumulating around the edges and under the flaps of the fabric. When I took off the case and turned the iPad over, the Zagg shield covering the back had blue "stains" on it in various areas and around the edges. It appears that the stain/color of the iPad case was leeching into the Zagg shield material. I cannot tell if it is happening on the front because the bezel is black but I have to believe that it is. Also, it doesn't clean off with any type of soap and water or electronics cleaning solvent. Now the back looks horrible. Sometimes I like having the iPad out of the case but doubt I'll take it out now as it makes it look cheap. No it hasn't gotten wet or damp. I am very careful with the iPad to the point of being anal about it. 🙂 Thus the full body Zagg shield and the iPad case.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

Hello,

I had a similar experience with my iPhone. The interior of a leather case discoloured the Invisible Shield. It left tan/brown stains on the shield material that I was unable to clean off (tried quite a variety of products). I ended up switching cases and replacing the Shield as the stains were clouding the display.

This is a drag to hear about as I have already ordered both the apple case and invisible shield for my iPad. I've been really impressed with the zagg product so perhaps I'll rethink the apple case....

Cheers,

Andrew

I have two iPhones with ZAGG shields, but I don't keep them in cases all day. However, I do use a leather holster when I'm out of the house. I'm surprised to hear of this problem. For me, Simple Green has always removed the toughest stains from my shields. Hope this helps. Hmm, maybe leather and continuous heat don't mix. I appreciate Dadof2Girls mentioning this.

Great, I read this the day after I get my ZAGG swag and install it. For the back I got the ZAGGskin with the eagles and the mountain, and the front the regular clear skin.

This is the first ZAGG gear I have ever used. Prior on my two iPods, my iPhone, mom's iPod and iPhone, I have always used skins from Clear View Skins, www.cleaviewskins.com. Never had a problem with that company, and even with my original iPhone I got on the first release date, and my older iPod, the skins still look great. On the screens anyway.

Having said that, while my iPod back skin still looks clear, my iPhone back skin is yellowed some, even used in a black rubber form fitting case.

While my iPad back is of slightly different material than the front, and full of color as the eagles fly above the mountains, I do have the Apple case and am curious how things look a year from now.

i've used wraps from Zagg & BSE (BestSkinsEver) on iPods, iPhones, iPads, & even Macs for myself & family members.

i've never had a "colored" stain appear on any of them but they all eventually changed color (simply yellowing or getting darker) over time and no matter how hard i try to avoid it (i'm anal too), they ALL pick up dust around the corners & edges.

it's a crap shoot but i roll with BSE now cuz they're cheaper & i don't have to worry about mailing it back like a Zagg replacement. the time i save is worth simply buying a new one & not worrying about exchanges.

if you are going to use wraps, my philosophy is now to EXPECT that eventually they're going to get so BAD you'll want to remove them. now i just do it at regular intervals as part of my device experience. that perspective helps me manage the disappointment of seeing the appearance of my beautiful devices go downhill. 🙂

i'll order a wrap before i get a device, wrap it the same day, and when the day comes that it starts to look unacceptable to me, i just order another one and repeat the process.

for me this is MANDATORY, because i resell my devices to help cover the cost of new ones, and because i'm anal & overly protective, i always get outrageously good prices for my used iDevices.

hopefully this helps a reader.... peace, L.

You've described exactly where my stains are located. I've never had this in my iPhone full body Zagg. To me this speaks to the probably cheap dye that Apple may or may not know the Chinese must be using.

The new pictured "skins" are made from a different material. I am not sure they will react with the Apple case the same way the shield seems to be. Would be interested to know.

This is indeed a common problem, not only with the iPad, but iPhones and other devices which are put inside of cases. There is a certain amount of natural humidity in the air and of course going from a cool office or home into the heat does create a tad bit of sweat. It isn't enough that one would notice it, but it does cause this issue.

I have not used the Zagg Invisible Shield for awhile now. First of all they aren't invisible, that is an out right lie. They yellow over time and as someone else stated the edges are lent magnets. I hate these darn things and I do not recommend them. If you are keeping these things inside that Apple case, you don't need the back shield anyway. You are likely better off just getting something like the Anti-glare or Crystal Clear static shield. These look better, they perform better overtime.

I also have the Incipio Feather case which I sometimes snap mine into over the weekends when I don't need or want to use the Apple case. This also fully protects the back with out scratching or discoloring. Easy to snap into and out of, I can then slide it into a sleeve which I also purchased. This gives me few options. Also the Incipio feather case with Incipio sleeve actually gives me a bit better protection when using it on the weekend when I am a little more active something is more apt to happen. The apple case for me works better in the work environment.

The Zagg products are far as I am concerned are crap!

I have had this exact experience with my Bodyguardz shield (similar stuff), which I have had on my iPad since I got it. I have also carried it in the Apple case since I got it in April, rarely taking it out. Today, I took it out and noticed the rectangular shadow on the back case, in the shape of the rectangular slot for holding the cover tab when the iPad case is at an angle. The leeched shadow looks like it is embedded in the iPad shell itself (please tell me that's not possible), but I cannot tell, because I haven't taken the Bodyguardz shield off.

I don't buy the humidity suggestion, though I suppose in extreme cases that is possible. I have had Zagg or Bodyguardz shields on every one of my iPhones and iPads, white and black, and I have never seen this before. Nor, BTW, have I had a yellowing or lint problem; when properly installed, these things are great, IMHO; YMMV.) Obviously, something is going on between the Apple case and the plastic film

Anyone using the iPad case and Zagg shield have this happen?
