Apple’s iPad tablet is being used by doctors, lawyers and businesspeople to ease their workloads, is it true?

I work in a hospital over here and have been seeing a few doctors carrying them around. They like it for the remote access ability. Once the iPad gains some more momentum and more apps get developed, it will truly be an even better device.

I own my own design/construction firm for large-scale custom woodworking. I carry an iPad around with hundreds of architectural design documents and sketches, almost all of them rendered as PDF's. I run into all sorts of architects and designers on my job sites and most of them are now ditching their laptops that they used to carry for this function in favor of the iPad. One of the big advantages is that you can stand up and have a conversation while sharing the iPad and using it one-handed. On a dirty construction site, there isn't any furniture or easy place to prop up a laptop and use it so this makes the tablet form factor a no brainer. 1 month after the iPad's intro, I saw maybe 2-3 of them in the field per week. Now, I run into 5-10 per day. They seem to have really caught on big time in my field.

Savannah
yes

A large orthopedic group based out of Savannah GA is implementing iPad's into their practice.

If you could develope a great app for medicine, you would become rich. That profession is still so paper intensive, it is ridiculous. They have paper charts and electronic charts.

The medical field is a profession that needs something like the iPad to deeply penetrate all aspects of its practice.

The company I work for is now in the process of testing the iPad for deployment to our "mobile" workforce (sales, etc). They say the assessment will be done by the end of the year, it will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

To be honest, I'm surprised that we are even considering the iPad, our IT department and the corporation itself is extremely conservative when it comes to new technology, heck, my work laptop still runs Windows XP.
