Ipad touch screen unresponsive

Hi Everyone,

I got my ipad 2 as a present for xmas and for the past 2 weeks the touchscreen continuously freezes up. It won't let me touch anything at all. The ipad is still working as the lock button at the top works and the home button at the bottom still registers, its just the touch screen.

I have held the lock and home button down to reset the ipad but when it turns back on it is still frozen. I have tried this several times and it never fixes the problem.

The only way it seems to work again is if I just leave it for about 2 hours or so and eventually it works again for a bit.

I have also done a complete factory reset from my itunes on my computer and as soon as it restored itself and loaded all my data back on, guess what, the screen froze.

I don't live very near to an Apple store so it is difficult getting to see a genius and they are always booked at weekends, which is the only time I can go.

I live in the UK and have no idea what I can do next. It should still be covered under an Apple warranty shouldn't it as I only got it at Xmas. Do I need to call someone and find out about sending it off for fixing or replacing, or do I have to go without my ipad until I can get it to an Apple store for a genius to look at??

Any help would be great as it was such a lovely gift but it is just making me annoyed now!!!
