Is there an App icon?

I am brand new on my iPad, but can't find an icon or place to just buy apps like I have on my iPod touch. How do I add that app icon so I can get in quickly to view apps?

Apps icon sjOuke be on your first home screen. You should not be able to delete it, so if it is not there, do a restore via iTunes.

Guess what, the icon was on the first page. I didn't realize I had moved to the next page, the dots at the bottom show where you are. I know DUH!!!!! but for a true newbie ( my iPod was not a touch) i thought i had no app icon and I was in a panic!

Thanks for the responses, the comments are great, it is on the home page and I would have restored if necessary .
