I haven't updated to 4.2 yet (can't until I return to my computer I'm on vacation)' but in 3.2.2 can you create addition mailbox folders in the left column on iPad? If not in iOS 3' can you in iOS 4?
Mac Pro 3.0 GHz Quad-Core, iPad WiFi + 3G,
Mac OS X (10.6.4),
30" HP LP3065 Monitor, 22" Cinema Display
I use gmail and you can make folders either by logging into gmail using Safari on the iPad or you can use your desktop/laptop computer to make the folders. The mail app on the ipad doesn't have this option.
Are you saying that I can create mailboxes/folders for my iPad on my Mac Pro? My Mail client has tons of mailboxes but none of them sync over to my iPad. Do you set them in iTunes perhaps?
How does one's gmail webmail set up sync to your iPad?
Lastly, I wonder why there just isn't an add button to create folders from within iPad Mail somwe can file our email if desired. Seems like a big over sight IMHO.
Open your gmail account in Safari on the iPad. At the bottom of the page click on the BASIC HTML link. You can make folders in two places, SETTINGS or in the left column click on EDIT LABELS. Labels are folders in gmail. I have no idea why they call it that... In the CREATE A NEW LABEL box name your folder and hit create. Open the mail app on the iPad. If the folder doesn't show up, close the email app and open it again. The new folder should be there...
You can also make folders in your email account using your desktop computer. You might be able to do this with other email providers.
Thanx David. That is fascinating that Google mail interacts with iPad Mail better than Mac Mail does, isn't it? Since your first post I mentioned the "Google Connection" and she concurred with you.
I'm traveling for the holiday and when I get home will update to 4.2 and also give the gmail folder thing a try.
I have several email accounts set up on my iPad, only one being gmail, and assume only the gmail account will show folder. Matter of fact, now that I'm thinking, I have my gmail account forward to my main email address which mean I don't actually have my iPad access the incoming Gmail server. So I'm betting since there's so real interaction, the folder(s) can't sync to my iPad.
I guess I'll have to reconfigure Gmail to not forward and set up the accunt on iPad to access Google's mail server.
Off topic: being that Google archives all searches we do relative to our computer IP address and save all Gmails, not to mention they're filming everyone's house (mind boggling), while not paranoid or with anything to hide, I'm just not loving my life being on someone else's hard drive.
