iPad as lone internet "computer"

Hi Allan

I note this question is over a couple of years old but I'm a new iPad owner and this relates to what I want to do. However I don't know how to achieve this as I don't want to disturb things and make a complete mess!.Can you advise me how to use my existing hub for the iPad only and still be able to use my laptop for Microsoft Office etc.?

I really would be grateful for any advice at all. I don't want to sync just use my iPad for web browsing and email.

If you simply want to connect the iPad to an existing Wifi network then just go into Settings->Wi-Fi and look for the wireless network name your latop is connected to. Tap o it anf follow the prompts.

On the other hand if your network is not wireless, i.e your laptop connects to the "hub" via a wire, then you won't be able to connect the iPad to it.

My iPad is connected wirelessly as I type this. Do I now have to disconnect my laptop from wifi.

If I do what happens to my email as it's part of the configuration on my laptop?

Both should be able to stay connected to the wifi network, depending on the overall strenght of your network.

No your Wifi can sustain both devices. You don't need t disocnnect anyhing. the Laptop will still function as it has.

Sorry to be so dumb! My mail accounts are set up on my laptop and I get to access them on iPad but I can't control them from the iPad......how do I achieve this?

What kind of control?

If I want to change something in my email accounts I have to do it on the laptop as I only "access" my mail on the iPad, what would I do if I didn't have a laptop?

Change something like what?

The iPad can connect to many email services and receive email without the need for a computer.

You can configure the iPad to download your email , send email, even have a signature for your email.

What is it you want to change that you can't do on the iPad?

I'm sorry to have been such an idiot. It has just struck me that to "control" my email accounts I go via Safari using the web. I was treating my iPad as "god". Many thanks for your help and patience.
