Very slow sync

My syncing with iTunes is very, very slow. It does sync but really slow. I get spinning beach ball that takes for ever. Using Macbook Pro with 10.6.03. At least triple the time of my iPhone to sync. Shay should I do?

mine also syncs very slow, with my Dual G5 2.0 GHz (3 GB RAM, 2 TB HD). running iTunes 9.1 of course, with close to 150 gigs of data (118 of that is music). i'm obviously only syncing select playlists and podcasts, etc, using only 15 gigs of the 64 gig iPad.

not to mention, i can't get any USB port on the G5 to actually charge the thing (even powered Belkin hub), but that's a whole other problem.

basically, every time i plug in, iTunes freezes for a solid 2-4 minutes. a song already playing will continue to play thru, but won't go to the next song when it comes to the end until beachball stops. FWIW, the iPad says it is syncing that whole time. it then syncs relatively quickly when iTunes becomes responsive again, and crashes to a halt for the same 2-4 minutes when it is done syncing. i've restarted the computer and iPad, tried different USB cables (iPad and iPhone ones), plugged into Belkin hub, 2 rear USB ports, 1 front USB port, and NOTHING makes a difference. always happens, (and never charges).

HELP!!

Right now about 40 gigs, which I can understand when loading that much but after all is loaded and not adding anything it still is super slow. If I sync and unplug and then plug back it takes about 4 minutes for it to show up. And then the spinning beach ball starts. Activity monitor says iTunes not responding but eventually it will sync.

Graham: it's not that the data is taking a while to load - that is to be expected. Rather, iTunes (and/or the iPad) are taking unusually long to begin and end an actual sync. With Activity Monitor showing iTunes as not responding, there is clearly a problem at the start and end of every sync that is causing that. I certainly don't have such a problem when syncing any of my iPods or iPhones.

Okay, thats not right - the backup contains very little and should not take that long, so some data must be corrupted. Have you loaded the Facebook App by any chace - or LinkedIn as they were both found to cause havoc with some people on the iPhone in exactly that way.

Can you look on the summary tab in iTunes where it shows you memory usage - does it say how much memory type 'Other' is ?

Hmmm.. thats probably not overly bad for a sync in progress - unfortunately I know what it should be on an iPhone (around 400 to 500meg) but don't have a frame of reference for an iPad.

It certainly sounds like there is some corrupt data in there which is causing the sync to stall. is this its first sync or have you installed anything since the first one was carried out successfully ?

Very slow sync
