Safari not recognizing some text entry fields

I have noticed that there are some instances where Safari and other browsers don't recognize a field on a web page as being one for data entry. I run a number of websites using the Joomla content management system and the editor for entering content is a wysiwyg editor. When the editor is in the wysiwyg mode, Safari, Eyebrowse, and iCab do not recognize that I can type into the editor. If I toggle the wysiwyg mode, I can enter data with no problem.

I have tested 5 different editors plugins, and each has the same result. I have a work around for the time being, and have put in a bug report to Apple. Has anyone else had a similar problem and has anyone found a solution?

I've got the same problem. With the iNotes interface to Lotus Notes 8.5, as well as the posting function for the University of Phoenix Web site I have problems with the iPad not recognizing the text input field for the message body. I can input in the subject line and in other fields just fine, but on those it doesn't pop the virtual keyboard. Both are "wysiwyg" editors. My partner has the same problem with his postings for school (different university).

In the UoP Web site, the relevant code is based on:

<textarea name="messageBody" cols="" rows="" value="<br/><br/><div class="signature"> --<br />
</textarea>

I assume there's something about the <textarea> tag that's messing things up, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't be supported on the iPad, but it works fine in Safari on the Mac. Anyone have any ideas?

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone come up with a solution? the semester is starting and I'm teaching two online classes. I can't type in the text box on the discussion board. I can read the discussion, I can assign points (I have to type in a number), but I can't respond to student postings. I just checked and it's not working on my iPhone either. I know it worked in the past, because when I bought my original iPhone that was one of the things I tested, and I've had students who have posted from their iPhones. This is something that's been broken in the last update or so.
