ipad won't Charge!

Are you using the charger that came with the iPad or the smaller iPhone charger? The iPad charger is a higher power model.

I think that should work. Check all the cable ends for bent pins or any damage.

Some computers do not have the high power USB ports that the iPad requires. Some computers may have the high power ones in the back and not in the front.

The original iPad charger has some resistance on the data line line otherwise the iPad won't charge - see http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_pinout.shtml

But I don't know what to make of that ...
What computer do you have?

I tried to look up the specs on HPs site but you might have to call them to make sure.

That is good news. My wife always uses her charger with hers.

The USB specifications require that a device not draw more than 0.5A when connected to a USB port. iPads require a lot more than that. If they don't recognize that they are connected to a compatible port that can supply more current you see the message about not charging. Sometimes they'll still charge very slowly if the screen is turned off. You might find the iPad charged if you leave it plugged in overnight, but you really need a compatible adapter to charge it quickly. Mine won't charge from a Dell E4300 or my Dell monitor. It will use the car charger that I got with my iPhone from AT&T (AT&T branded).

In the case of these products there can be a big difference between buying approved chargers and cables, and some cheap Far East knock-offs. Cheap car chargers, in particular, can fry your device if you crank the car while the device is plugged in.

Wall chargers mostly either work or not. As mentioned before, the iPad senses some resistor values in the data lines to determine if it is connected to a compatible charger. A poor cable can affect this and prevents charging even from an approved charger. At other times you can get intermittent results depending on what order you plug things in or on the temperature of the charger. This applies to both iPhones and iPads.
