Hey!
When I get sent an SMS message to the number thats associated with sim card in my iPad 3G, a notification pops up saying I have a new message. All I want to do is view the message, I do not need to reply or send an SMS. Is it possible to do this with either a unjailbroken or jailbroken iPad 3G?
Many Thanks

Ok thought so, but there's not even a messaging app I can download from Cydia if I jailbreak?

There is an app called textfree. Search that in the app store. Been using it for awhile, it's awesome.

I have the wifi version and I wish I could get the notifications you are getting but I guess I can't. No that I have an Ipad my iPhone is left unattended most of the time.
