Screen Rotation Lock Switch
I dropped my iPad yesterday (with it in the Apple Case) and it hit right on the screen rotation lock switch. There is a tiny little dent that doesn't look too bad, but it bad enough that the screen rotation lock switch no longer slides (I suppose it is wedged). Will Apple do anything for me? I imagine I'll have to pay to get it fixed but I am not sure.

I updated the OS to 4.2.1 on my iPad. Now the switch the locks the orientation of the screen no longer works. When I slide the switch down, I get an icon flash on the screen that you would see for example if you "muted" the sound. The icon is that of a speaker with a line through it. However, it has no affect whatsoever on the sound. You slide the switch down, you get the mute icon on the the screen. If you slide it up, you get the speaker icon without the line. Either way, the sound still works and my screen orientation rotates regardless of the switch position when I rotate the iPad. Is this a known issue with 4.2.1Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Modification In Latest Patch For Rotate Lock Switch To Mute Switch
I have not idea why apple changed the switch function. It is very annoying if you are moving around with the unit and watching as the screen flops around. I think 99% of the users do not place an iPad in a fixed position when operating it, we tend in lay it down or sit and relax while using the unit. anow we have to ensure that we keep the unit in a fixed position when using it or face the flip flopping effect. For the love of god put the option to use the lock of the sceen over the silly mute button. I think we can hit the up/down keys to adjust the volume like big kids.

Volume Switch And Orientation Lock
Just got my iPad 64GB today (sent from US to UK) - everything was packaged right, all still; sealed and safe additional packaging via FedEx - all working great apart from the volume and orientation lock - neither seems to do anything - anybody else experienced this??With it being a US iPad, it's not realistic for me to send it back, so I will have to wait until the UK ones are launched I assume!?

I find myself constantly doing a (unlock)(turn)(lock) sequence as I switch between apps.Sometimes the accelerometer is just a bit too sensitive That is about the only "complaint" I have after a month so of pretty heavy use, including a nearly two week trip to Germany where I managed to most of what I needed to do with the iPad + Bluetooth Keyboard + Cradlepoint PHS-300/Huawei 160e (no MicroSIMs where available yet so I had to improvise).On a side note, I did learn to take the keyboard out of my carry on when going thru airport security, otherwise there is a fuss about why didn't you take your laptop out (they see the keyboard in the X-Ray screen).

I find the lock switch button, on the bottom part of the switch to be very sensitive, all it needs is a little nudge up (not even needed to travel up to the top) and the orientation lock will be disabled.

There were times I was really hoping for iOS 4.2 to come to my iPad. Within an hour I wish my lock rotation switch from 3.2.2 was back. Instead of leaving the very useful switch as is, Apple decided to give it a very useless task; partly muting iPad sounds.So far I have hardly ever muted my iPad and in the instances I did, the keep the "volume button pressed for a few sec's and volume will drop to zero" worked perfectly. What I do use very often is lock rotation.

Can you lock the sound volume level that you have set up in Settings>General>Sound? When using the iPad it is easy to bump the sound volume switch on the side of the iPad. Before you know it, the sounds have either turned themselves off or are on full blast. I miss the "swish" when e-mail is sent when the volume is inadvertently turned off.
