My question is should I sync it to my iPhone backup so it loads with all my iPhone stuff and then take of any stuff I don't want on it. Or from scratch and select stuff for it, by doing that it won't mess up my iPhone apps will it ? Will iTunes control two different selections of apps for the different devices. I have never had two devices on iTunes before.
How To Sync With Old Iphone Backup When Selected New
Mar 25, 2011
I just got in ipad 2 and its awesome! but i accently press set up as new how can i restore it with mi old iphone backup? so i can have all my contact and etc anc pic.
I lost my iPhone 4 few months back and recently got myself an iPad 2. I was trying to restore my iPad from my iPhone backup but apparently only the apps are working (not useful anyway cos they are not compatible). Contacts, photos, notes etc are not in my iPad. I'm wondering why. iPhone backups can only be used in another iPhone?
My iPhone 4 backs up to iCloud (my music is also stored in iCloud) - if I buy an iPad & sign into iCloud on it, will it download all my apps as well as everything else stored in the cloud?
I accidentally deleted my iPhone back up on iTunes while sorting out my iPad and desperately want it back. Is it possible to restore this back up as I want my messages and contacts back.
IPad :: Won't Restore From IPhone Backup - Nothing Is Transferred
Aug 11, 2014
I've just got a lovely new iPad, and want to set it up the same as my iPhone (iPhone 4S on 7.1.2). I have over 100 apps and various email accounts on the iphone so I thought doing a restore from my iPhone backup would save a lot of work in setting up the ipad. (I know some apps won't transfer)
iTunes happily backs up my iPhone, then happily goes through the restore procedure of restoring the iPad from the iPhone backup. When the iPad reboots, then unlocks, it asks me for my iCloud password, then says successfully restored.
However, NOTHING IS CHANGED. All the factory install default apps and settings are still there. No apps or settings have been transferred
So far I've got about 4 gig of data on my iPad. The backup takes more than 2 hours to do. I hate doing it, because it takes too long. I understand, it takes that long to transfer 4 gigs to my hard drive.BUT-- Isn't it possible to do a Sync without doing a Backup?Do I have to do the backup every time?I've looked and looked. I see now way to avoid this.Maybe you've found the answer? Information:Windows, iPod, iPad Windows XP
Hi, ok maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I never use my computer anymore. I do fine with my iPad and my iTouch. Not only that but I don't even want to use my computer! It's slow, etc. Anyway I bought a subscription to Mobile Me thinking I could use that as a backup alternate to syncing on my computer but now I find that Mobile Me doesn' really act like a backup, won't store some things like Pages documents unless I email them to myself, etc.
So my question is , what alternative, if any, is there to my old, clunky computer with iTunes on it can I use as a type of cloud or other backup location for my iPad, or any hardware available? I hate using my computer anymore. Thanks
I'm on my second unit now. I have about 15 gigs of data on mine. I started the backup last night at 9:30 PM, it's now 5:15 AM and the backup is less than 50% complete. I'll try it on a different machine tonight (this one is Vista Ultimate 64-bit), but I had the same problem with my original iPad on three different boxes (two PC, one Mac). I've got about 2.5 gigs of music, 9 gigs of comic books in ComicZeal, and 3 gigs in Apps (mostly PDFs for PDFReader HD).
I have had the iPad for a few months now. Today I read that ios 4.2 was out, so attempted to connect it to my Mac for the first time to carry out the upgrade (until now I've been content to download Apps through the Apps store and all has been fine)Anyway to cut a long story short after connecting to iTunes the Apps have transferred over to my library fine, but on attempting the upgrade it just sits at Backing up.... for hours with the status bar about 5% complete and never moving.any ideas welcome
I'm not sure if the sync is slow or if the backup is slow. Ipad says "Sync in Progress", but Itunes says "Backing up iPad.
Apps on the iPad include a free calculator, Amazon.com's Kindle for Iphone/iPad, Barnes and Noble ereader for Iphone, Ibooks ap, and the aps that came preloaded with the iPad.
SYNC appeared to take only a few seconds, but BACKUP has been going for three hours, and the backup status bar at the top of iTunes is creeping along. Right now it indicates the backup is about 1/3 complete.
Should sync/backup take this long for the iPad? If not, what can be done to correct it?
As a iPad owner, to understand the ins & outs of backup & sync, I created a diagram, using a fixed-width font, with Textedit. It can't be posted here of course, it gets messed up without a fixed-width font. Hopefully I've attached a screen-capture png of most of it. I'd be very glad to hear of any errors & omissions!
What's the difference between syncing and restore from backup? i upgraded to iOS5 but i want to restore all the apps(games) and their respective settings, but when i click on 'Restore from Backup' iTunes says that it will only restore "contacts, calendars and notes", it doesn't say anything about restoring apps and their settings. And when i click on 'Sync Apps' iTunes says that it will delete all apps and stuff from the iPad 2 and i don't know if syncing restores all the apps with their respective settings.
