I've seen in some post that you can't download docs from Safari to use it in other apps in the iPad, but in the guided tour of the Pages app in apple.com says that it's possible to open files "downloaded from the web, including iwork.com"
I was sitting in Starbucks, enjoying the envy of using my iPad, browsing Versiontracker.com and discovered some apps for my MBP I needed. I downloaded the DMGs on my iPad (which reported that xyz.xls had completed downloading. Why it thinks a dmg is an Excel file is anyone's guess.
So where are the DMGs I downloaded? Is this another meaning of 'vaporware'? Or is getting files from Safari another deprecated feature of the iPad.

General :: Convert Documents Downloaded From Safari Into PDF Files?
Nov 20, 2013
I am using PDF converter app to convert documents downloaded from safari into pdf files. However, some of the text don't appear as the document on MS word (computer). The text goes further down as if there were several spaces between lines.. How do I fix it so the pdf converts properly?
I just got my IPad 2 and I can't get it to open .plp.pdf links in Safari. It will open links that end in .pdf only but not those ending in .plp.pdf. I've got iBooks and Stanza installed and these don't open the PDF either. It essentially opens a blank document in these apps. The links open fine on my Windows machine and on my MacBook.
I just got the new iPad. I had some files on my laptop mp3s and mpeg4 which I could listen and watch on iTunes without issue. Decided to transfer them via yousendit cos laptop needs a new charger. When I tried to download safari couldn't open the zips and then would only open other files in QuickTime.
I just got my ipad and instaled the latest Adobe reader. When in Safari, I click on pdf files and a small wheel in the doc I clicked on spins then nothing else happens. My wife has and ipad 2 and she is able to go to the same websites and open the same files.
In Safari for OS X, I can have Safari open a website whose pages and images are stored on my HD's Sites folder -- first, activate Web Sharing; then choose: File > Open a File... > Sites > index.html.
Is there any way to transfer a website's files to my iPad, and then use iPad's Safari to open it there?

Downloading .doc Files - Open A Link To A .doc File From The Internet And Open It With A Word Processing App
Mar 23, 2011
I've been searching for awhile but haven't found an answer yet: is it possible to open a link to a .doc file from the Internet and open it with a word processing app on the iPad?
I believe pages does this, but I was wondering if that's for certain and if any other word processing apps, like quickoffice, do it as well. This is for school use: I want to download a word document and edit it on my iPad, then save it to my dropbox account. I don't want to spend all the money on an app just to experiment to see if it will work the way I need it to.
Word Documents Open But Bigger PDF Files Don't Open?
Jun 25, 2010
Just picked up a baseline 16GB WiFi only Ipad 2 days ago, and beginning to upload all my work documents onto it. I use mostly Word and PDF files. I've already downloaded and installed Pages, iBooks, and a free app called iPDF.
The problem I have is that I can get Word docs to open up fine, but it seems like the iPad hiccups a lot on bigger PDF files.
i.e., I have a large PDF file that is about 100 pages long, most of which is in xls spreadsheet format, and blueprints of floorplans (schematics). The pages with the spreadsheet loads just fine. Once it gets to the drawings, it chokes. If I try to zoom in, it chokes. If I rotate the iPad, it chokes again. Is there a work-around to this problem? I want to be able to present the file to my coworkers/boss and examine something without embarrasing myself.
2nd question I have is: is the Spotlight the only method of organizing the work documents? Is there no way of, say, creating a folder on the desktop, like my MBP?
Other than that, I'm really happy with my purchase. I don't have to lug around my MBP anymore, instead just whip out the ipad during the commute!
I would like to buy an iPad and I was wondering whether OpenOffice.org works on iPad. I even want to know whether iWork comes free of cost or we have to buy it. How do we load iWork or is it preinstalled?
I am trying to open application which I have downloaded few days back on my ipad (skype, dictionary, talking tom etc...) but when i click on any of the application it just blinks but it is not opening.
I recently bought an iPad 2. I have downloaded a couple of app and they have been working great. I have noticed, though, sometimes when i try to click on the app, nothing happens. The only way I have found it to work again is if I install another app. Then they will open.
My downloaded apps will not open. I can open apps that came loaded from the factory, but when I attempt to open a downloaded app, the screen momentarily goes black and then returns to the homepage/wallpapered screen. I've tried powering off, etc.
I have set up an iTunes account, an Apple account, and of course an iPF account. All of the apps that came with the iPad work fine. I am having problems with the apps I have downloaded from iTunes. I have downloaded iBooks, Mypad for Facebook, Flipboard, Nook and iPF. All of the these apps except iPF do the same thing when I tap them. They start to open and then suddenly I get a black screen and immediately I am taken back to the home screen. I have checked and I have the latest version of the iOS. What am I doing wrong? I will try powering down the iPad and the iMac it is connected to and see if that works but in the meantime I am going to send this message off here and see if anyone else has the same problem.
I have been using the TSN app for months and suddenly it will no longer open. It starts to open and then disappears. I have tried a reset of the my ipad and also downloaded a free app but nothing is working. What else do I need to do?
Whenever I try to tap the icon of downloaded programmes on my iPad 2, it will flash and return to it original position immediately. How can I open those programmes?
