Move Around On The Screen - Keyboard Does Not Have Arrow Keys ?
Jul 14, 2010
I know this may be very basic but what do I do to move around on the screen? I'm used to the arrow keys and the iPad keyboard doesn't have them. Touching screen to move cursor is not too accurate when composing messages.
Where do you find the arrow keys (up, down, left, right) on the keyboard? I find it frustrating when working in pages or numbers and I can't move through a body of contents with the arrow keys. I've had my iPad 2 for about 3 months and still don't know where the arrow keys are?
I just got my iPad and I discovered right off the bat that the popup keyboard needs an up down arrow keys for scrolling. Sometimes when I'm replying to a message in a forum, I need to scroll down to the bottom of the quoted text. But as far as I know the popup keyboard doesn't have an up down arrow keys so it's difficult to scroll. So is there a way to scroll up and down other than with the missing arrow keys?
For some reason my arrow keys do not seem to work. I am assuming while viewing a web page you should be able to use the arrow keys to scroll up and down.Am I missing something here?

Is there anyway to display any arrow keys, as well as a Tab key, on the iPad1's built in display keyboard. Typing is a pain w/o any arrow and Tab keys. If not, is there any software available.
IPad 4 :: Substitution For Arrow Keys On Keyboard?
Feb 20, 2014
i'm wondering if there is a substitution method to move space by space or character by character on an iPad because there are no typical arrow keys like it would find on and standard keyboard?
System Freezez And Keyboard Arrow Keys Not Working?
May 8, 2010
I've had my iPad for almost a week now. I'm one that has a connectivity issue. I did the "fixes" but I still lose the connection after turning it on. I just have to reconnect and it usually stays on.
Here are my issues with the iPad: 1) l love the keyboard but miss the arrow keys 2) I can't organize my pics into groups as I have a pc and there's no app for the iPad. and there's no identifying info on the pics. 3) I don't really care about the inability to multitask....yet. I haven't had a need to so far. 4) I've had random screen freezes. 5) The touch screen doesn't always work the way I need it to....it will miss when I try to place the cursor.
There's a lot I love about the iPad but I'm not sure about keeping it. Thoughts?
Wireless Keyboard Arrow Keys Not Working For Excel
Apr 27, 2011
I purchased an apple bluetooth keyboard for the iPad today. Now when i'm using the excel equivalent such as number and also office HD and quick office, it does not allow me to use the arrow keys to navigate around the spreadsheet. Is this right or am i missing something? It's quite annoying having to press each cell. I know i can move across and down using return key and tab but i want to be able to move up and backwards too.

Apple Bluetooth Keyboard - Arrow Keys Wouldn't Work ?
Mar 15, 2012
This may not be the right place for this, but I have really been struggling to find a good keyboard to pair with my first iPad. I have the apple keyboard, and absolutely love it, but when I paired it with my fathers iPad 2, the arrow keys wouldn't work...I did some research, and it seems like thats just reality. Kind of a deal breaker for me, as I was looking to do a lot of typing on the iPad and the arrow keys are pretty essential for that. So, I go ahead and buy the Kensington Apple iPad 2 key folio Pro performance not even thinking the arrow keys would work on that, and they do!

So whats the deal? is it possible to override whatever apple has done to disable the use of the arrow keys on the keyboard they make? If not, has anyone come across a good, portable bluetooth keyboard that they have paired with the iPad? As much as I like the Zaggfolio, I have casing worked out, but this keyboard thing is kind of ridiculous.
For example, I found this logitech that says if its for the iPad, but 65 bucks? and who knows if it even has the arrow function I'm looking for...[URL]
Why The Arrow Keys (in Particular) Don't Work As Navigation Controls For The Screen
Jul 17, 2011
I bought the Mac bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPad 2 and it's great, but I don't understand why the arrow keys (in particular) don't work as navigation controls for the screen. (In Pages, for example, they do work as you would expect -- you can scroll up/down, left/right, home/end, etc.) But in a typical app screen (email, for example) they are inoperative.
Prior to getting the Mac keyboard I had the Zagg keyboard/dock unit and I believe it DID have those navigation functions, as well as some other dedicated function keys (like the Home button). So I'm just wondering if anyone knows if or when Apple might be making those features available for the bluetooth keyboard, as I imagine there are a lot more of them in use than the Zagg.
I know this has been discussed before. But lack of arrow keys to me is a big issue and flaw with the product. Many websites present a dialog or input entry box that is impossible to scroll and navigate in, without arrow keys. This even includes this website where once you enter your comments and attempt to go back to edit, you can't scroll within the data entry window.
Am I missing some new functionality with iPad that provides cursor navigation, or is everyone experiencing the same problem?
Could Apple not put them in the same black bar above the virtual keyboard where the "Previous" and "Next" buttons appear? I think that might be a great spot for them?
When I use numbers with my wireless Bluetooth apple keyboard, I am not able to use the arrow keys to navigate within the spreadsheet. Is this by design or is there some way to fix this so that I can have full functionality with my wireless keyboard restored?
No arrow keys means I can't edit posts in many PHP based forums. DRAG. Of course we could try and force the world to follow standards, or make a product the I want to use instead of just show off.

If my post goes longer than the initial box how do I maneuver up and down without any arrow keys? This is using the screen keyboard of course. I noticed the problem on another forum when my post started running long, ended up needing to bring out the Bluetooth keyboard to make the edits.
