IPad Completely Unresponsive After Updated To 5.1

I experice extreme slowness after accidentally updating my iPad to 5.1. Is there anyway to downgrade? Or is there any hint to make it faster?

Apple just completely ruined my experience with iPad.

Btw: it's interesting to see "slow" is among the top 10 popular tags for question in this forum...

Unresponsive To Touch
My iPad (32MB Wifi Only) is currently unresponsive to touch. I cannot even unlock it from the lock screen. I have tried the "hard reset" where I hold the home button and lock button down until the iPad restarts, and I've tried to restore the iPad from a backup in iTunes. Nothing I've tried has had any success.

The iPad doesn't appear to be frozen; the iPad changes orientation when I turn it 90 degrees, and before I locked it, double-tapping the home button brought up the search screen. It syncs with iTunes. It simply is not responding to any touch.

I've babied my iPad from the time I've received it, and I've been using the Apple case for most of the time I've owned it, so I'm not inclined to believe that this problem is the result of trauma.

The problem seems to have gotten progressively severe over the course of the past five days. Initially, I was able to resolve the unresponsiveness to touch by locking and unlocking. It worsened to the point where I had to do the "hard reset" (hold Home + Lock). When that no longer worked, I was able to resolve the issue by connecting my iPad to iTunes. It's worsened still, and now I can't resolve the issue at all - not even with a restore from backup.

I have some unscientific thoughts about the cause. I use Safari to browse Google Reader frequently, and the touch problem often manifests during this time. The problem could be manifesting completely at random and it just statistically occurs when I'm in Reader. At any rate, even when the iPad is working fine, Reader (in Safari) doesn't scroll correctly and often the Safari is unable to render the article summaries correctly. I wondered if the Javascript that Google uses is somehow causing an unseen exception in the iPad that leads to this problem.

Unresponsive Touch
I have a 16gb iPad, wifi model, and the screen will sometimes be unresponsive. This seems to happen when i leave the screen alone for a while with it on. Like when watching a YouTube video in full screen mode, it will take about 2-3 taps on the screen before the menu will come up.

Unresponsive Touch Screen?
My iPad worked fine for a few weeks (aside from wi-fi connection issues), but now the screen is frequently unresponsive. I need to repeatedly tap, rub, hold icons for 10-15 seconds before it does anything. At first I thought I just had cold fingers, or the screen was dirty, or something else... But it's happening more and more.

(I've been an iPhone user for years, so I'm not new to touch screens. This is definitely not normal compared to an iPhone or Touch.)

Jittery, Unresponsive Screen...
The screen on my iPad is going crazy. The behavior started while adding a new event to iCal.

The screen became unresponsive and/or wildly responsive to touch... meaning... it seemed to have frozen and wouldn't do anything then at a moments notice would react wildly to the touch. Trying to type a word would result in multiple letter keystrokes (ex. "Hellllllllllooooooooo") or when trying to spin the "wheel" to select a date for an event would make it spin like a roulette wheel.

After backing out of iCal, without my touching anything, the icon screens scrolled left and right very jittery... sometimes stopping between two of the icon screens. Almost like a ghost with Parkinson's disease was in control (bad example but the best way to describe it).

The behavior started about 3 days ago. It has behaved normally for some time in between these fits... but until this is figured out i haven't used it much.

Please help. I love my iPad and hate to see it in this condition. It's never been dropped, kicked, or really touched by any other human beings besides myself. It RARELY even leaves the house!!

Unresponsive / Laggy - Bad Memory
I am not sure what is going on, but my iPad 3G (16 gig) has become at times completely unresponsive. It gets so bad that pushing wake/sleep or home has no response for minutes at a time. I have updated to iOS 3.2.2 a while ago. I noticed instances of lag after that, but more recently it has made the iPad unusable. At first I wondered if it was the amount of free space (I was down to 145 mb), I removed some videocasts (leaving a gig free) and this improved the situation, but did not completely remedy it.IOS doesn't swap disk memory so this should be an issue. Bad memory? Also I activated it on Rogers, then recently went to the US for a month and activated it on AT&T (swapping sims). Canceled the ATT plan before I returned to Canada. Stuck the Rogers sim back in (I didn't cancel Rogers) and everything worked.I was starting to get the problem while in the states.I also wonder if the sim swap contributed?

Comiczeal 4 App Faulty - Unresponsive
I downloaded comiczeal 4 for the iPad and added lots of comics to it and everything was working fine. However the app will now only load a black screen. The menu bar very briefly appears (less than 1 second) upon initial launch and is not selectable. I can still switch between "pages" by tapping the sides of the iPad, but the only thing that ever appears is a blank black screen. I tried rebooting the iPad, and also re-booting the individual app but the problem persists.Does anyone have any support on how to rectify this issue? It seems to be stuck in limbo at the moment.

Has Been Unresponsive On And Off - Message Is Spooled
I tried to send several photos totaling maybe 20 megabytes to several people on Saturday. Since that time my iPad has been unresponsive on-and-off., My guess is the message is spooled and too large to send (I've gotten Exchange errors from the systems I tried to send mail to to the effect that: "The error that the other server returned was: 421 421 Exceeded allowable connection time, disconnecting. (state 18).")Fine, I'll just delete the message, I thought. Not so... In addition to the iPad being unresponsive, attempts to delete the message from "Sent" fail with the message:"Unable to Move Message The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"

Touch Screen Unresponsive In Safari
I've had some issues with the touch screen responding while in Safari. I'll touch the URL bar to go to a new site and nothing happens. I cannot scroll, either. Sometimes, when I do get the keyboard to pop up, it doesn't respond, either.

I do not have any response issues with the screen in other applications, however, and I was able to quit out of Safari without a problem. The problem seemed to resolve itself when I turned the iPad but has occurred since then.

Unresponsive / Laggy Home Button
I have been having problems with the home button recently.

Firstly, when the iPad is asleep, it can take up to 6 presses of the home button before it wakes up.

Secondly, when I am in an application, it takes a few presses of the home button to return me to the home screen, although occasionally I'll press it a few times, then all of a sudden it will return to the home screen and launch the iPod.app, which is what should happen when I press it twice, so it seems almost laggy in that sense.

I have recently restored the iPad, and it had these problems both before and after the restore.

My iPad is also not jailbroken and I am on the most recent iOS version for it.

IPad 2 :: Home Button Unresponsive?
Occasionally, pressing Home Button will do nothing. So I press it again -- sometimes upwards of 4 or 5 presses before it finally responds. I'm not mashing the button and am certain that each press is an appropriate amount of force (I proudly own an iPhone 3, 3GS, 4, iPad 1 and now iPad 2, so I'm confident about how much force to press these Home buttons).

I tried power cycling the iPad 2, but that didn't help. I closed all running applications. At first, that seemed to work. For several hours, the Home button was perfectly responsive. But alas, here I am this evening, again frustrated with the non-responsive Home button. At times, I can't even turn on my iPad since the button won't respond for several seconds.

Again, this is occurring whether I'm using my configuration (latest IOS version) or even with the factory default setting.

Screen Unresponsive With Boxes Around Icons?
OK so I was browsing some photos in my iPad (Current Gen) on the 500px photo app. The app became unresponsive and was missing buttoms normally there, so I clicked the home button and got to the home screen. Once I did this, I was unable to scroll between my home screens. Every time I touch the screen, a rectangular box appears the app nearest to where I am touching. If I touch an app, it will not open, I can barely get in to settings. I plugged in to itunes and did a restore but it did the same thing. I powered it off and on a few times and the same things happens. When I touch the slide to unlock, a rectangular box displays around the slide to unlock and it takes several swipes before responding. This rectanuglar box floats around and it takes 20 clicks to get in to settings.

IPad 1 Power Button Unresponsive
I have an iPad 1 3G 64 GB. I purchased it in June 2010. Have used it moderately. Recently (one week ago) the power button has started to go south. I have to press it very hard and there is no click any more. It seems to be getting worse day by day (I am now traveling and use it a lot). I have apple care so I am not that worried about Apple taking care of this. I just wanted to know from others if they expect this to be an exchange for refurbished situation or a repair. I have an Apple store near. Should I make a Genius appointment? I have had lots of trouble with iMacs in the past year and got used to simply walking into the store without appointment.

Touch Screen Unresponsive In IPad 2?
I just recently bought an ipad 2, when i bought it, it all work fine until now the first trouble is that the ipad2 become unresponsive(touch screen wise)when playing games, when connecting or losing wifi connection, emailing, and mostly just being on,will have the chance of the ipad freezing up and also the ipad sometimes goes berserk while in touch screen nresponsive mode the screen is moving on its own and sometimes types things on its own as well.i have tried several ways to fix it, reset manually at the ipad2 settings, soft reset, hard reset, update the firmware(i have updated it to os5.1.1), restore ,and backup, and none of those help.I thought it would be unresponsive apps that make the ipad froze up, and i don't think that the issues, i'm hoping the problem in not hardware wise(bad ipad batch).

Unresponsive Slider - Macbook Snow Leopard
wondering if anybody is having the same problems as us. Our new ipad has arrived-(that is another story in itself-). Popped the usb into our macbook snow leopard. iTunes & ipad synced everything good there. Then turned on ipad & our on slider would not slide to open. Reset to factory default on itunes again. Still would not slide to open. After an hour of trying in frustration, it finally worked. Everything worked perfectly. Turned ipad off. Full Recharge. Turned it on & the slider wont slide to on. Reset again. Still won't slide to on position. Held down on & start for 10 seconds. Still won't slide to on position. we keep trying for about a half to 1 hour, suddenly the slider works. Reset, re-sync again. Slider still frozen. 30 tries later slider works. Turned lock off, turned sleep mode off. Still has an unresponsive slider. Tried opening it with a password. Worked great for a few tries, then the slider becomes frozen again. 30 or so tries again, the slider works. Is our ipad faulty or are we doing something wrong?

IOS 5.1.1 - Right Side Of IPad 1 Screen Became Totally Unresponsive
I have both an iPhone 3GS and iPad 1, I upgraded them both through the 'settings' menu on the phone, which to me, is a great idea... When it works properly. Anyhow, straight after update, I had this problem: [URL]. However, now the right side of my iPad screen has become totally unresponsive.

So I've tried hard resets, restores (Redownloaded iOS 5.1.1 through iTunes), nothing is working. So now I can't even setup the iPad, since the 'Next' button doesn't recognize me touching it, and sadly you can't turn rotate the screen to use a part of the screen that is working on the setup menu. How to manually sort this.

Completely Dead - Will Not Charge
Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer
