To reduce the internal memory usage on the iPad. What is the best way to move photos from the iPad photo roll to an external hard drive, if possible without the use of a computer and are you still able to view the moved photos on this external drive with the iPad.

I have 30 ipads syncing on a bretford sync cart for our school. They are filling up the mac air we use to sync them.

I'm considering purchasing the iPad for a kid as a laptop replacement. In other words, he would not be syncing to his photos on a laptop. The iPad would be his 'native' hardware. Is this possible?
Specifically:
1) Can he move his photos directly from his digital camera onto the iPad, then sort and do basic edits there? (Storage limitations understood)

I would like to store files such as music items, apps and especially videos that were bought from apple (tv shows, movies e.t.c.), then put it on to a USB stick or external hard drive and then be able to connect it to my iPad via the USB adaptor so that I can delete and add apps, music and movies from iPad and be able to put it back on, without connecting it to my computer or needing to have Internet acces to download it from the store (when I am over seas, because I do not have a laptop, I operate from a desktop). I had a question about using my camera connection kit to plug my external hard drive into my ipad. The kit comes with the sd card reader and a usb plug in, well couldn't i just plug my external hard drive into the usb plug in and transfer photos to the hard drive from the ipad?
