View 1 RepliesOK, so, one thing that may help with my incoming raffle-prize iPad being 16GB instead of 64 (if somehow I am unable to exchange it) is that I'm reading it does allow, with an App, streaming from home networks.
Can somebody run me thru how that works, please, in absolute moron-simple terms? My only wireless-streaming experience is my Win7 laptop being picked up by my PS3, and even then some video formats weren't recognized by the PS3.
Sorry for needing the moron style assist here - I'm typically a software guy, but there are so many different protocols and caveats with video ripping and formatting and such, that ANYTHING about digital video gives me an ice cream headache.
Can I assume the iPod app in the iPad will just natively stream my iTunes library over my WiFi? (I'll miss MediaMonkey, and I bleedin' HATE iTunes. C'est la vie.) Or does that req an App too?
Note: Even the 64GB wouldn't hold all my music and videos, but even as I want to go "one machine" with the iPad, I'll soon have a PC in my home entertainment center and would be able to use it as a "hub".
Does it work with 6.1. If so, a I entitled to an activation code for my new iPad, if I previously purchased an activation code for a different iPad?
View 1 RepliesI am a proactive user of Social Networking sites and it's like second life for me.I use my ipad 3 for accessing FB,Twitter and Gmail. I want to know if there are some ipad apps which can improve my Social Networking Experience on my iPad.
View 10 RepliesI am a consultant and visit my client's offices in a number of cities around the world. They don't offer me access to their wireless network, but sometimes they do provide wired access. Since I carry my iPad everywhere I go, it would be great to just hook up and connect up. I think I've noticed in the Apple store and Best Buy that the demo iPads are wired in rather than connecting wirelessly. WHAT?????? If so, then why can't we.
BIAS WARNING: My recent iPod Touch and iPad purchases represent my first-ever Apple products. I was almost persuaded by the iPhone, but didn't give in. But when iPad came along...well, here I am. The generations that follow (iPad and others) are going to change the way everyone works/plays/shops/communicates/etc. and I'm happy to get going now. That said, I realize that Steve Jobs has a bias against wired networking. I get the vision (I think), but we have to live in the real world today. And not every opportunity to connect is a wireless one. So....
If they can do it at the Apple Store and Best Buy, why can't we? Is it just a matter of time before someone in the aftermarket comes up with app + hardware to make this happen or is it technically impossible outside of the Appledome to make it work?
Or, am I wrong in thinking there is a need and a market for such a product?
(I'm going to look awfully foolish if it already exists and I just haven't run across it yet. I have looked. Honest.)
So, is there any speculation about how data will be received? Obviously WiFi will be one way. I don't want to pay AT&T for data for another device. Any idea if it will be possible to set the network settings in order to tether to the iPhone using the NetShare application similar to how I tether my MacBook?
View 24 RepliesHow do you print? There must be a solution within iWorks if not system wide...right? Bonjour networking I assume? Anyone played with the SDK and know?
View 5 RepliesMy Ipad don't find my network any more, i use a belkin router abgn. My laptop find network easyaly, but Ipad don't. I updated Ipad to 3.2.2, and the problem continuous.

My 25 year old daughter is playing with my iPad so I am using my MacBook.
The MBP seems so clunky in comparison to the iPad.For surfing the web, checking out YouTube or e-mail and networking it is hard to beat how nimble the iPad feels and behaves.
Is it possible they both use the same networking chip. I wonder if anyone knows yet?

First, this is not a flame thread. It's meant for some open discussion and intelligent conversation regarding the potential threat the iPad's wifi issues could be bigger than Apple would like to share.
The below is from iClarified via WSJ that hit today. Princeton university issued a statement and ban on the device this week claiming iPad is the culprit regarding the below. Additionally we have heard that Israel has put a ban on iPad imports as well as actually confiscating them from some of it's citizens.
Via iClarified:
"Apple's iPad has already been rejected by two top universities because of network stability issues, according to the WSJ.
Both George Washington University and Princeton University have rejected use of the device and Cornell University also says it is seeing connectivity problems and is concerned about bandwidth overload.
George Washington said that about half the devices which established a connection to their network were using a leased IP address "well beyond the time they should." Princeton stressed that its problem wasn't a WiFi issue.
Cornell said that the school is seeing networking and connectivity issues and is "working to ensure the iPad does not have devastating consequences to our network."
All the colleges are trying to find fixes for the connectivity, security and network problems but George Washington thinks it could take until next spring until the iPad is fully supported on its network.
Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer said she wasn't familiar with the schools' problems, although Princeton has reported its issues to the company. "

Coupled with the stock issues in the Pipeline (I.E. Michigan has no stock for 3 days apple or BB) and the lack of explanation at store level leads me to believe problem is becoming quite large. The threads on these boards alone speak of wifi related issues that are Perplexing to say the least; and really make little sense to the many owners who's devices are exhibiting the symptoms.
Speculate all you desire; but I think this wifi issue is indeed a pretty significant hurdle for this device and Apple.
What do you make of this?
I venture to guess that most people who are buying the iPad already own an iPhone and/or iPod Touch. There's your multitasking solution right there... just use your iPad for books or content creation or whatever, and put your iPhone next to it and use that for streaming audio, chatting, or social networking. That's what I would do, at least until OS 4.0 comes out and likely adds multitasking to both anyway.
View 3 RepliesI am searching for a way to utilize Apple iPads to communicate critical information to technicians and musicians wirelessly. The room is a Karaoke club with a lead tech, an 8 piece live band and two technicians on two separate levels. The show utilizes synced audio tracks sent to the audio booth in the center of the room, a click track sent to the drummer and the lyrics are sent to video monitors on stage. When a song is requested from the guests, the tech back stage uploads the song from the computer. The selected song needs to be transmitted to everyone before the song is played (so the band can pull up song charts, audio tech can preset board, and lighting cues too).
Right now, the room is using a dry erase board off stage. It is difficult for the band to clearly see the song title, however... the two techs operating the sound and lighting off stage do not know the song until the band starts playing.
Is there an app where multiple people can communicate with each other simultaneously through iPads? I would like to be able to network 5 iPads through a "private wireless router" that is not connected to the internet to deliver "TEXT" based information to the areas throughout the room.
I tried to reboot my iPad 2 and after I slid the power off slider, the little revolving circle just keeps circling. After about 10 minutes I connected it to my PC and I got an error "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone due to an unknown error (0xE8000065)." I've tried holding the Home and power buttons in different combinations, but nothing works.
View 5 RepliesMy iPad got stuck yesterday and am not able to do anything now, I was just using it for 4-5 hrs and when I tried to switch it off it just got stuck in the red swipe screen when I touch and swipe to switch off it does nothing. What to do now? How to fix this problem?
View 3 RepliesIīve got a big problem with my iPad and couldnīt find anyone else who has this problem in other forums on the internet: Since a couple of weeks I`ve got problems with my WiFi connection, it drops completely while Iīm using it. After this I have to reboot the device and there it was again. This happend in the beginning, no big problem.Since iOS 5.1 my iPad doesnīt have the ability to connect to the 3G network anymore, only EDGE is working and after a reboot I have to reactivate the device!!! Does anybody know why this happens? Iīve updated to 5.1.1, with no change. The other strange thing is that I donīt have any WiFi at all after a reboot. The settings app just tells me "no-Wifi". I canīt activate it at all. After a couple of reboots it's back again and I can activate over WiFi. Is it possible that my WiFi chip is broken? But why do I have to reactivate the iPad because of that?

It is not possible to rotate the screen of my iPad 2 for the past few weeks. I have rebooted my iPad to correct this issue. Still, it remains in the same situation. In what way can I restore this feature on my iPad?
View 4 RepliesI "rebooted" my iPad this morning because last evening I sent emails and it doesn't seem like any of them went through, they weren't in drafts and they weren't in send, just gone. So I rebooted and it took a while with the swirly thing. Finally I restarted it and all the apps were still open when I double clicked the home button. Shouldn't a reboot close out everything and start fresh?
