IPad 2 :: Not Getting Recognized On Win7 Machine - Unknown Device

Mar 14, 2013

I recently had some problem with my Ipad 2. Originally it was jailbroken on iOS 4.3. I gave it to my dad, since I bought the new iPad.

Last month he updated it to 6.1 over the air (OTA), and you already knew, the iPad cannot be used anymore. When he showed it to me, I can only see the "plug in to iTunes" on the screen.

When I try to restore the firmware for it, here comes the issue. iTunes cannot recognize my iPad. Specifically, Windows has some problem in installing the driver for it.

Here is the warning message when I plug the iPad in and Windows finishes installing the driver.

In "Device Manager" I can only see the "Unknown Device" which is supposed to be my iPad.

I tried to follow the troubleshooting on Apple support page by manually installing the driver from "C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers". After doing this here is what I saw in "Device Manager". Notice the exclamation mark on the "Apple Device".

I have updated my iTunes to the latest version, by the way, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. I have tried on 2 3 other Win7 machines (32/64 bits), and tried to change other cable as well. So now I am sure the problem is with my iPad.

Device Always Needs To Be Connected To Host Machine?

Apr 18, 2010

I took this out of the box and turned it on I was greeted by nothing more than a black screen & USB icon & itunes icon. Nothing would get me off this so I just jacked into my nearby MBP and it started up got a home screen all that ... iTunes id'd it & installed iBook app...blah blah. After that it seemed to work fine all by itself. But I just restarted after inadvertently hitting the power button too long & it did it again. I never had an iPhone but this doesn't sound right. Also on this startup I actually saw the lock screen for a split second bUt then it went to the USB to iTunes screen of nothingness.

New -Windows Says Unknown Device

May 16, 2010

My new iPad with 3G finally arrived and I am having trouble activating it. I have no problem syncing my iPhone but when the iPad is connected Windows gives an error saying "Unknown Device" and it does not appear in iTunes. The laptop is running Windows XP and installing service pack 3 made no difference. I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes 9.whatever. Uninstalling it completely and reinstalling from scratch as recommended by the assistant made no difference.

It Is Recognized As Camera Device

Nov 22, 2010

I have a problem with my IPAD and iTunes. It works fine until yesterday, but it then indicates:
"Windows digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (code 52)"
I followed Apple's instruction but now, it is recognized as camera device. No itunes for me.

Device Not Recognized In ITunes For Windows?

May 2, 2012

I have got a new PC with Windows XP 64 Bit SP2 operating system.

I could install the 64 Bit version of iTunes (which is actually meant for Windows Vista 64 Bit or Windows 7 64 Bit)Version: 10.6.1Download ID: DL1427File Size: 73.23 MB with only one issue: "Apple Mobile Device" could not be startet.

I have read the Apple-information: iTunes does not support 64-bit edition of Windows XP. Is anybody aware of a workarround for XP 64 Bit?
