IPad 2 :: App Store Error "An Unknown Error Has Occurred" Message

Mar 17, 2012

I am using ipad2 with version 5.1. Whenever I try to use the app store either to update an app or to get a new app I get the message "An unknown error has occurred." There is no error number. This started yesterday I believe. I know there are many similar questions on this site, but I haven't found a solution that works for me. I have tried powering off and back on again. My wifi connection is good. I also have an ipod (2nd generation), and I am not having a problem with that. Does anyone have a suggestion for me?

An Unknown Error Occurred - Error 1603

Nov 10, 2010

A couple of days ago my iPad suddenly said: "connect to iTunes" and when I did, I got a message that it needed to be restored. A bit annoying, but OK.
The problem is that when I try to restore I get the message: "an unknown error occurred. Error 1603"I found some information on Apples website, and followed the steps, but nothing works.

Error Saying - Could Not Be Restored - An Unknown Error Occurred (40)

Aug 29, 2012

Here is an email I've drafted out in attempt to send to Apple but instead they have me an error saying,"We're sorry, the transaction cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later or contact us." Twice...

Quote:

Recently I've had my iPad hang. It hung for so long I decided to restart my iPad so I held the sleep button and home button until it restarted on its own.

Upon restarting, the Apple logo displayed as per usual and then came the iTunes logo and a picture of a USB below pointing to the iTunes logo. I assume this is the recovery mode. So I proceeded to click "Restore". It started downloading the update and went on to restore my iPad.

At the end of the restoration then came the error saying,"The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (40)."

This would not be a PC issue as I tried restoring it from my laptop which failed and so I tried it on my PC which failed as well. My network is also not the issue as I am fully connected to the internet with no issue syncing my other Apple devices and updating etc.. And since I have been able to sync with no problem (both on my laptop and my PC) for my other Apple devices, I strongly believe that it is not an issue with my security software.

I've read somewhere on the internet saying,"..due to out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software". Could it be that some part of the software on my iPad that saves the date stopped on that very day when it became "bricked"? And that now it is another date and that conflicts with the part of the software that uses this information? Would it help if I changed my desktop's date and try again? Please understand that at this point in time I've tried all I can and frankly am frustrated already. So I would like to know if it would work before trying.

So I've decided to make a trip down to a local Apple authorised service provider to see if they can fix this. They have stated that it is an issue that customers face and that some can be restored and some can not be restored. They then tried to restore for two times and concluded to me that the device is unable to be restored. They went on to offer me a 1-to-1 replacement where I would have to send in my current unit and pay a fee of S$400++ to have it replaced for a brand new iPad version 1 with the exact same specifications.

Tell me frankly and honestly that this offer is genuinely a good offer and I will take it. But take no offence; who in the right mind is going to pay 400 bucks for a device that is two generations backdated.

The apple authorised service provider also stated that the problem with my iPad was that of a hardware issue. I have no dropped it a single time, I have not ever used it until its burning hot, and there isn't a single tinge of a burnt smell coming off from it. If what they say is true then I have to say I'm a little disappointed in the lifespan of this iPad. And the standard 1-year warranty is definitely not fair for a product like this. You have to agree that in a mass production no matter how careful or accurate manufacturing machines are there are bound to have issues that may have produced a compromised product.

So here's a quick summary of the things I've tried:

- opened iTunes, connected device, set to DFU mode and tried restoring.

- tried with a laptop, PC Desktop.

- tried with a different 18 pin USB cable.

- tried self-diagnosing the issue after reading your troubleshooting page,
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting

- delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) and retried restoring again.

- sent to an Apple authorised service provider located at, eServ@313Somerset by Micro 2000 Technology Pte Ltd (6.5 kms) 313@Somerset (Somerset MRT), #B3-22 (Beside M1), 313 Orchard Road, Singapore 238895

All of which ended with a disappointment that my iPad died out of the blue and is now still unable to be restored back to factory settings.

Ipad 4.2.1 Update Unknown Error

Apr 15, 2011

I had been trying to update my jailbroken ipad running on 3.2.2 to 4.2.1 for a few weeks now. I have downloaded the ipsw file and tried updating the ipad using shift+update multiple times. I keep getting the error message after verifying my ipad: The iPad "****" cannot be updated, an unknown error occurred (3194).I cannot restore my ipad using a 3.2.2 ipsw file either.I have searched different forums and used the apple support site, and found out that i was supposed to add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to the host file. After that i tried updating again and after my iPad successfully entered recovery mode, the same error message appeared.

Updating To IOS 5.1 - Getting Unknown Error On IPad 2

Mar 13, 2012

I updated my iPhone 4GS without any problems, but when I tried to update my iPad 2 it got an error message and froze me out of my iPad. Now when I plug it in it says it needs to be restored, but every time I try to do that it gets an error message before finishing saying "unknown error (1)". I tried updating iTunes, restaring my computer and the iPad, removing any securities issues or firewalls. The screen of my iPad now just has an iTunes icon and a usb cord picture.

Cannot Sync Ipad Unknown Error 13019

Jul 6, 2011

I tried syncing recently and got a message that the ipad was too full, and the ipad was then slow and unresponsive.. I deleted some videos on the ipad and unsynced the tv shows on itunes.. the ipad has since been fast and back up to normal speed, but now I get this "cannot sync ipad unknown error" message everytime i try to sync.

I really dont want to restore because it is a pain in the butt.. any other solutions out there? For some reason half my songs are simply not on the ipad anymore..although the ipad still lists the correct number of songs in the 'about' menu in settings.

Youtube Is Showing 'Unknown Error' On IPad 2

Jun 16, 2012

Youtube has suddenly stopped working on my ipad 2 about 4 days ago - when I try to view a video it just hangs on the loading screen and then presents an 'unknown error' dialogue message. he iPad is on IOS 5.1.1. I contacted Apple Support who advised me to restore my Ipad back to Factory Settings - I have done this and it has not had any impact.I have done a reset on the ipad, cleared cookies and history in Safari (even though I don't used safari) - in essence I have done everything I can possibily think of and it still does not work. I am exceptionally irritated about this Apple

Unknown Error 21 On ITunes When Try To Restore IPad 2?

Apr 7, 2012

It all started when I was deleting an e-mail (from an uknown adress), then Mail was closing and I went back to my homescreen. Suddenly I see that all my purchased apps where gone, only shortcuts to Safari and the original Apple programs were in place. Then I tried to push the home and the power button to restart the device, it turns back on again without any affect.

I connect my Ipad to the Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8. and open iTunes, then I tried to recover a safety copy from the list, without any luck. The result of this ends with a device showing just the Apple logo a while, and then the iTunes wire. The problem with showing "unknown error 21" in iTunes seems to be a usual Windows third-party issue, but I`m running it on a Mac.

I tried all basic steps in the Apple support, but it still came back with the message: "detected iPad in recovery mode...you will have to restore it before it can be used with iTune", and then a message that tells me the Ipad device can not me restored, unknown error 21.

I have no firewall, the time is correct, I'm running the latest iTunes version 10.6.1, I can connect to the iTunes store and it looks okay. I connected the original 30-pins connector on the back, unplugging all other USB-devices, I checked this and several other things, but I just can't get it to work. Before it turned into this "Brick" I noticed that the indication on used memory for programs (green) went down to zero and "other" (yellow) were the biggest area (app.14 GB).

IPad 2 :: Won't Restore / Unknown Error Occurred

Sep 2, 2014

I've tried numerous times to restore my iPad (2nd Generation), however each time it simply comes up with an error message "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3014)." This started when I tried to plug my iPad in for the 1st time since purchasing it quite some time ago. I have hundreds of pictures I don't want to lose. I'd love to have the iPad updated to the latest iOS, however if I could just have access to my emails, photos, etc. from the backup I'd be more than happy.

Jan 2, 2012

I was browsing a couple of sites today, and during browsing, i received a message saying "safari cannot install profile due to unknown error" , i am not to sure which of the sites gave this message, (geexbox, openelec, xbmc) and browsing over them again does not give this message. I am using an iPad 2 16gb wifi. when going to General -> Settings , i dont have a profiles tab, so am not sure what profile it was trying to load. i also have nothing changed in my settings that i can see, should i be worried, that there is some spyware or malware loaded?. can an ipad get any kind of bad things through a profile install?. i have looked online but cannot see an answer. Does a profile automatically get installed, or does one need to agree to install?

Hacking :: An Unknown Error Occurred (-1) While Restoring IPad 3

May 13, 2013

Ive got a iPad3 (New IPAD) 32 GB WiFi + Celluar.

Yesterday I've decided to restore my iPad because day before started to reboot after 10 min of working... and finally the process ended with an: "iTunes was unable to restore this iPad. Unknown Error (-1)." And now my iPad is stuck in recovery mode!!!

I've tried multiple times, also in DFU mode... Still the same error (-1).

I've tried to use recovery fix option on redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, iREB. It did not work. Maximum what I had is my iPad was entering "white apple mode" after clicking fix restore button. I've tried to restore IPAD using redsnow (Extras -> Even More -> Restore) I've set the newest IWPS from iTunes and and I've used Remote blobs to restore (IPAD is in Soft DFU Mode)... and finally restoring proces stops at "Updateing baseband", and recovery mode...
