IPad 2 :: Hiding SSID For Securing WiFi?

May 26, 2011

I understand it one of best ways of securing wifi Is to hide the ssid. But when I try this my devices obviously can't connect to the network. Even though they have connected before so should remember the network. I have altered the default admin password on router.

IPad 2 WiFi Won't Connect Without SSID Transmitting

Oct 17, 2011

My router is set as WPA - TKIP with encrypted password. With SSID transmitting, I setup WiFi connection on my IPad 2, selecting the modem name and providing the password. The connection is solid. If I then turn off SSID transmitting on the router, the WiFi connection on the IPad 2 is broken even though the router name still appears.

I've tried telling the IPad 2 to "forget" the connection and entering the router name (Case specific) correctly along with the connection type and password. IPad 2 reports it can't find the router?

Wifi Reception & SSID

May 14, 2010

So after hearing about Google I decided to turn off my SSID broadcasting... it doesnt need to be on anyway since all my devices are setup.

I get home and wonder why the iPad isn't connecting to the net. Turned SSID back on

I havent experienced any of the other known WiFi issues other iPad users have seen. Is this occuring to other users too, or is my iPad WiFi not as perfect as I thought??

iPad 16gb WiFi

Not Detecting All WiFi SSID's?

Jun 3, 2011

I have a Ipad1 3G. It works fine. The other day I was in an area that had WiFi and I expected to find a specific SSID I had used before but it wasn't offered in the list of SSIDs the iPad found. So for grins I did a site survey with my Blackberry and low and behold it found the missing SSID and a dozen more than the iPad found. After a long time the iPad did find a few more including the missing one but it took MUCH longer than the Blackberry. It never found all the system the Blackberry did. It it normal to the iPad to take a fairly long time to build it's list of available SSIDs?

Strange FIOS Router Wifi - SSID Router

Aug 4, 2010

On bringing our new iPad to my daughter's place for a visit, I set it up to connect to her FIOS-based router. This took some time to do, mainly because there was another network in her apartment building using her name and both of us kept putting the password to that one. Finally, I noticed that there was another one in the list which just happened to share her router's SSID Things processed normally, I think, after that. It connected, strangely not automatically taking over for the 3G which was in use at the time, but did take over; iPad displayed, bars displayed, etc., etc. No other messages were displayed at that point but, frankly, I can't recall if I tried any net work, i.e., surfing or attachments, right then Subsequently, we simply get the "No connection to the internet ..." messages or their equivalents whenever we try to use wifi. 3G continues good, wifi continues good on her little Samsung netbook (on which I'm typing this, and trying to remember that I'll have to clean all of my fingerprint smudges off of her screen before she gets back from work ... new habits, new habits ...).

General :: Securing IPad To Office Desk?

May 12, 2011

I've integrated my ipad into my daily work so I use it constantly to take notes during the day in the office. If I step away from my desk, (cube no office to grab lunch, ladies' room) i try to remember to put the Ipad in a drawer out of sight, but there's been times that i forgot and I sit through lunch wondering if someone walking by will steal it. So I'm wondering if there's a case or device that can cable lock the ipad to the desk. Maybe a DIY type of thing with a case? I'm not worry about someone taking time to cut through a cable, more concern with passerby just picking it up. I don't want to glue an ugly lock to my Ipad so I'm thinking a lockable case?

Hacking :: VPN - Securing Folders / Passage Of Files

Nov 23, 2013

My problem is this, when I give the kids the iPad their mum is just as likely to try and sell it or claim it as her own. I really want to get my kids one and secure it down so she can do almost nothing with it that interests her.

I want to set up a VPN that would allow remote access and I could drop files onto their iPad. Films books etc. Also so I can keep an eye on what they area browsing.

Secondly I want to put anything of importance into a secured folder:-

Address book
App store
Settings

I think this would stop the adding of extra email accounts, adding of other people to address book etc.

1. So I guess I want to know... how achievable is this?

2. How secure would this be? Factory resets should be impossible if the settings folder is hidden away.. right?

3. Is there any other factors I should consider while doing this?

4. Should I put restrictions on Facebook, Twitter etc too? My kids are too young for that.

5. Finally, would there be another tablet that would deliver this better than an iPad?

IPad 2 Not Connecting To Hidden SSID?

Apr 20, 2012

We have a hidden wifi network at work and the SSID is not broadcasted. We are trying to connect an iPad2 device to this network by manually entering the SSID and security info but for some reason it's not connecting. We are getting an initial connection to our domain controller but no DHCP address is given. If we unhide the SSID it's connecting with no problems. What could be the cause of this? Is this something on the iPad or on the wireless access point?
