I'm having issues with interference with my video baby monitor on my 2.4ghz band - it is SO slow.
Unfortunately, it appears that Apple did away with the Interference Robustness on the recent Time Capsule firmware. So I thought if I could get the iPad on my 5ghz it may help with the interference issue. I'm able to see my 5ghz network, but when I try to connect and enter my password, it says "failed to join" and "unable to join the network".
I have the iPad 64G and I am tiring to connect it to my Netgear WNDR3300 with the 2.4GHz radio disabled and only the 5GHz N radio enabled.
I can only get my iPad to connect if I turn off all wireless security. I have tried WEP (64bit and 128bit), WPA (AES, TKIP, AES+TKIP), WPA 2 (AES, TKIP, AES+TKIP). None of these configurations worked.
I am using 5GHz N because there are too many 2.4GHz wifi routers in my area and want to be on the less crowded 5GHz band.
Unable To Connect To Network/can't Even Connect To My Home Network?
Jun 28, 2010
Title says it all, bought a 64gig iPad wifi today...little did i know tons of users are having wifi problems...my problem doesnt seem to fit the others though. Most of what i've read people can connect for a bit,
and after being in sleep mode then it has problems. I can't even connect to my home network. Works fine with my ipod Touch, laptop, etc. I dont have any form of security set up on my router what so ever. I plan on buying a new router soon (for reasons other than this iPad crap.)
I'd really like to see some kind of resolution to this problem before i need to do that though.I tried all that i could out of the trouble shooting stuff. nothing worked. I even tried setting up a static IP for it. What else can be done? i really dont want to have to return it since its such a nice piece of tech.
Unable To Connect With Secure Network/my MacBook It Was A Number We Got In The Network Panel?
May 22, 2010
I don't know the proper lingo, being network illiterate, but I'm at at retreat where there is an ultra secure wireless signal set up where you can't just get the signal and enter the password, the host has to actually go in and manually add individual computer ID info in order to allow access --
for my macBook it was a number we got in the Network panel, under Ethernet # or something like that?THere doesn't seem to be an equivalent for the iPad that I can find. Sorry for the vagueness, but can anyone point me in a likely direction?
Unable To Connect Wi-fi Network/network Ask For A Code?
Sep 22, 2010
In the lobby of a motel with wi-fi network. The instructions was that upon initial connection the network would ask for a code which was to be entered. I went to setting, selected wi-fi and the name of the network it found. The Ipad brought up a new page containing a sign-in form.
When I selected the entry block to start the typing of the code the keyboard came up but then the key board went away before I could enter a letter. I tried it several times.Getting faster I was able to enter 4 of the letters. But the numbers were impossible because it took two actions on the keyboard to get a number.

Unable To Connect /can Connect To My Guest Network?
Aug 15, 2010
I have a Time Capsule set up with a Guest Network. Two of my visiting siblings both have iPads (one with v3.2 and one with v3.2.1) and neither of them can connect to my Guest Network.
I tried changing the security type for the Guest Network and even turning it off altogether, so no password would be required, but neither iPad would connect. The Guest Network itself appears to work fine, as my wife's MacBook connected to it no problem.
As a temporary solution, I added my sister's iPad's MAC address to my access control list and let her join my primary network, but I'd really like to figure out why the iPads are being excluded from the Guest Network

IPad 2 On 5GHZ Wi-Fi - Lot Of Webpages Get Hung Out
Apr 20, 2011
Has anyone noticed Safari issues when browsing on a 5GHZ band? I have a turbo connection with Time Warner + DIR-825 router, but a lot of webpages get hung out (do not properly load) when I am browsing on my iPad2.. I just got it yesterday so I haven't had a lot of time to use it, or really compare it that much with 2.4GhZ. Any reason a 5ghZ would be slower on iPad?
4.3 is bugged! If u upgrade your atv2, iPad, and ip4 will no longer b able to do 802.11n @ 5ghz. They can still so 802.11a at 5ghz. Apple confirmed this is a bug and a 4.3.1 release will b needed to fix it This is a huge issue for me as the 2.4g band in my neighborhood is saturated. So I downgraded everything back to 4.2.1 (apple is still signing and validating it)
I recently bought a Linksys EA4500 dual band wireless 'n' router to improve reception. Without changing the SSID I broadcast on 5 GHz is there any way I can tell whether my iPad is using 5 or 2.4 ?
Does Original - Support Wireless N On The 5ghz Spectrum?
Aug 26, 2011
Does the original iPad support wireless N on the 5ghz spectrum? I tried asking my local apple store an three sales people and a guru were all clueless. I have major interference issues using my existing wireless G router due to the obscene number of other networks in my area, as such I want to buy an airport express and use the 5ghz spectrum for the iPads. Also, does iPhone 4 support it? I seem to think it can't?! Is it a different chipset or is it just disabled in software?
Drops Airport Extreme 5GHz 802.11n Connection After A Few Seconds
Apr 6, 2010
When connecting to my Airport Extreme's separate 5GHz tuner via 802.11n the iPad connects with full signal for a few seconds and then drops to one "bar" but the connection is fully dropped (i.e. all network activities stop working). This even happens within a few feet of the router. My MacBook Pro and iMac both connect correctly to the same 5GHz signal and do not drop. Has anyone else had this problem? I have been futzing with the Extreme's 5GHz tuner settings to no avail. I actually exchanged my original iPad because of this problem, and the replacement is doing the same thing. Information : iMac iPhone OS 3.1.3.
Unable To Connect To WPA2 Network - Unable To Join Network Name
Aug 22, 2010
I cannot connect my iPad to a wireless network running WPA2. I simply get the message back "Unable to join the network network name". This has been tried on an Airport Express and a Cisco wireless concentrator. Disabling WPA2 and the iPad will connect to both networks without issues. What is iPads support for WPA and WPA2? No issues with either Macs running Mac OS X or other PCs running Windows or Linux on the same network.
I received my iPad this morning.Unfortunately, I can't get the iPad to connect to my network. I use WPA encryption and it works fine with my iphone 3gs, ipod touch 1G and two other laptops in the house. I even tried setting my network without security and the iPad still doesn't want to connect. Bummer...Yes, I have tried turning it off and back on again - no luck.
I operate my iPad with postapid 3G Data Plans in Germany and Singapore AND until last Week had fast AND reliable connections on. Singtel and O2.
Since this Week, my iPad only connects to grps (Small circle Next to carrier Name ) and not to 3G anymore, althomugh strong 3G Network is available AND My iPhone connects to 3G without Problems.
The Micro SIM i use Works for 3G in Otter Devices. My iPad Runs The newest Carrier settings And The latetst Software.
Ipad will connect to some networks and not others. My home network is unsecured but it shows it as being locked. I am using linksys default pw of admin.
I've successfully connected to a network using WPA but at home I have to use WEP security to bridge my wireless to my satellite and bluray. There is no way to go into the setting to tell the iPad what security is used and there is no way to indicate what (using WEP) which key to use. (this was a problem found when running Linux on my Windows machine as well)
is it possible to connect the iPad to an ad hoc network? my laptop is verizon wireless ready and I use that while I'm at work. Can I share this network with my iPad?
This is my second Ipad. The first one I returned after one day because of the sleep/wake issue. The replacement working without issue for a week, and now the same problem is back.I am NOT going to mess with my router, and find the suggestions by the company to be ridiculous. I should not have to jump through hoops to get this device to connect to my network. In my apt we have...Xbox 360, WII, Iphone, Nexus One phone, Ipod touch, Asus Netbook. All devices connnect without issue. My router is not old...It was replaced in the past 6 months.
I just received my iPad today and have been unable to connect to any wireless network. I've tried with three different networks, all without success. Each time, it accepts the passcode for the network and the wifi icon shows up. If I try to open a page in Safari, I get an error saying that I'm not connected to the Internet. When I look at the settings for the network, I see a self-assigned IP address (169.254.xxx.xx) - for someone reason, the iPad is unable to get a valid IP address on any network.
I've already verified that all of the passcodes I'm using are correct and I've tried resetting network settings to factory defaults. Since this is a wifi-only version, this renders the iPad completely useless. I'm pretty frustrated and wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or fixed it. I'd really hate to return it (since I ordered it via mail), but right now the iPad is nothing more than an expensive paperweight.
