Last night I picked up my iPad and was greeted with the set up screen. This is after using the iPad all day without any issues.

I am running the latest version of iOS 7 and have never had this issue with any iOS device.

I restored from backup but wanted to know if this is a hardware or software issue?

Somebody has your Apple account password and they've remote wiped your iPad.

Don't even scare me like that :p

I should've added that this is a company iPad with provisioning profile installed, that they can remote wipe and/or lock the device. I doubt they would randomly wipe my device right before a company meeting. And they would wipe and lock it.

Fat-fingered IT guy wiped the wrong device? Stranger things have happened.

Well since the device was reset to factory, the provisioning profile was also removed.
