After I updated to iOS 5.1, my iPad2 won't rotate anymore.

I updated to iOS 5.1. the other day, and my iPad2 won't rotate anymore even if the screen is not locked. I went to service center, and after testing the iPad's accelerometer playing some game, the guy at the service center thought that it is not a hardware problem, but more on the 5.1 update. Weird thing is, I enabled the "assistive touch" feature's "rotate screen" function, and the screen rotates, although with prompting. That is, it will rotate only after I choose or unchoose to either "rotate screen" to portrait or left or right. Anyone else who has experienced this? Any suggestions how to fix this?

So did the service center do anythig besides play a game with the iPad? Did they try a reset? Did they restore it to the factory settings?

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.

Hi, I have exactly the same situation after downloading iOS 5.1, rotation simply stopped working. I have now reported this to Apple as a bug as Reset and Restore did not fix it. I have also tried the Assistive touch feature you mention and confirm I can command rotations, but these disappear as soon as I hit home button and have to be commanded again. I guess if we find no other option I will have to Request a Repair through Apple Support

First of all, check again at "Settings > General" and view the Side Switch configuration.

If "Mute" is selected, then double-click the Home button, swip right the icon bar at the bottom and confirm the "Lock Rotation" icon is not locked.

If "Lock Rotation" is selected, then turn the Side Switch a couple of times in order to force the rotation again.

I hope this will help you.

Kind regards
