Any way to text message using the 3G's phone number?

Given that the 3G model has a phone number, I would love to be able to do SMS and MMS messages right to the iPad, but can't seem to find a way.

Macbook Pro, iPhone OS 3.1.3

Although SMS/MMS is technically data, SMS/MMS is exchanged with cell phones via the cellular network that is used for calls, and the iPad's data plan is for internet access via the cellular network. "Dumb" phones - phones that are not in the smart phone category and do not have internet access via the cellular network can exchange SMS/MMS.

There are some 3rd party apps that provide for exchanging at least SMS via the internet.

I am interested in the answer to this question and was wondering if the answer is still no in my case!!

I have two iPhones (work and personal) and am sick of carrying both. I have forwarded the call to my work phone but cannot foward the text messages. I am looking to buy a iPad 3G and put my personal sim in it and hopefully recieve the text messages via iMessage app(assuming that it also on the iPad not just iPhone). Is there any chance that this would work??. Love to know that this possible. It would then Justify buying a 3G one
