I'm wondering maybe you guys can give me some advice. I bought my iPad primarily to replace my MacBook in school but I am disappointed so far.
My first issue is the lack of a decent word processor.I bought pages only to be dissappointed (it's problems have been discussed in other threads). My second issue is taking notes with a stylus is not what I expected! I tried many apps already except for that new "HD something" but I have a feeling it won't impress me.

I just hope that i can get a refund on my Apple case! I know i'll lose the 30 bucks for the power support ag film.

Opinions?

Yeah maybe it's not right for you. It works for me with combination of the Apple Wireless keyboard and remote login apps if I want to use apps on my computer.

You might be referring to Note Taker HD? It's has a really unique writing sytem for handwriting that I like.

But if you really miss the power of full fledged word processors, then yeah you may be better of with a laptop. There are probably more word processors apps coming down the pike but who knows when.

All the reviewers agree the iPad is not suitable for lengthy typing. Short notes are fine. Does the external keyboard not suit you? You can always clean up back on your other computer.

Personally, I'd buy a cheap netbook, and use it as a dedicated wordprocesser. I'm looking into doing just that.

Yes, return it or sell it. You bought your iPad for the wrong reason which is why you are dissatisfied. The iPad is not a MB/MBP alternative, but a complementary device. Now that you discovered this the hard way time to get your $ back.

Sure. Why in the world do some people think the IPad is supposed to be some kind of laptop replacement? It has never been billed as such a thing. At best it's a netbook alternative. The size of the hd & lack of physical keyboard seem like a blatant tip off, that this should not be considered as a replacement.

What stylus did you use on the MB? What did you expect the stylus would be like on the IPad? Like many accessories, more styluses ( especially ones with more of a point Yay! ) are being developed, patience is required.

It does sound like you bought something for the wrong reasons.

Sounds like you should do more research before you buy your next big ticket purchase.

Return it.

Do some research next time before you buy something like this, so that you know what you are buying.

I am amazed about these type threads. For some reason people feel a need to report to the entire world they are dissatisfied with the iPad and then seem to want people to talk them out of returning it. Why in the world would we care if someone is returning their iPad? There are so many reports of satisfied users that the question of whether this is a successful product or not are long gone. If it doesn't meet your needs, return it - it's your loss. I know I absolutely love my iPad and could never go back to not having one.

I have a nexus 1 and can definitely say that the iPad screen is far better.

Also, I watch my baseball highlights using my awesome official MLB at bat app.

You should probably have done a little research first about the iPad being laptop replacement.

I sold (gave to my Nephew) my Macbook after two weeks with my iPad. Now own one wifi and one with 3g. I found it easily replaced my Macbook, and I am hardly just some kid browsing the web and Facebook.

Now would I use it as my only computer? No, because I don't need to. Have an Imac in the kitchen and a MP with 30" in my office. But for mobile work, its perfect to me.

If you want to take notes then get a pogo stylus and Note Taker HD. I take notes all day with that app and does a good job. What is wrong with Pages for word processing? I have used it a few times and it's been sufficient.

I did research the iPad and many reviews said it was great for note taking. I knew I was not going to replace my MBP but I thought it could replace it for taking notes in class. I love using it at home, it is light and comfortable until I have to watch a flash video. Then I have to wip out my phone or fetch the laptop. That's annoying. I knew it was not going to play flash videos but I did not think it would bother me. Its just a luxury I don't have a use for. Maybe in the future note taking will be more advance on the iPad.

Keep it.

If you truly wanted to return it you wouldn't come to a board full of iPad fanatics inquiring on why you should keep it.

To really enjoy this device you're going to have to find your niche. And you'll have to spend a few bucks in the process.

Notetaker HD and Goodreader (and maybe Kindle or iBooks) are really all a college student needs. Get an external keyboard if you can't stomach taking out your mac for word processing.

You are within the 14 day window, it's simple, take it back. What do you need advice on? No one can make you be happy with something you are obviously unhappy with. Return and be happy with the Nexus.

What exactly is it that made you think note taking is better with a MBP than an iPad? Honestly, IMO, note taking is best in the old fashion pen-and-paper way. You could argue that one can type faster than hand write. However, there is no apps (for iPads or OS X) out there *at the moment* that you can quickly switch between typing, sketching, highlighting, recording voice.

However, how long has it been since iPad was released... a month? New apps are being released all the time. Soundpaper already lets you record voice and type at the same time. Next thing you know, another killer app comes out for note taking, and you'll regret that you sold your iPad.
