At the same time I recognized my battery draining more quickly than normal I realized that my iPad 2, when being woken from sleep by opening a case that works with the cover lock/unlock feature, does not require me to slide to unlock. This happens whether I lock it by clicking the sleep button at the top of the iPad and then close the cover or sleep the iPlosing simply closing the cover (there is the audio "click" that indicates it has slept). It does not happen if I wake it by using the buttons of the iPad (i.e. taking the case/cover out of the equation).

I'm unable to restore the iPad anytime soon and hold out hope that will fix it, but in the meantime I wondered if anyone else had experienced this... or may tell me that I'm imagining things and it always did this. Thank you.

It's not possible. You can only bypass the 'slide to unlock' if you're using a Smart Cover.

If you don't want your iPad to bypass it, you can disable it in the settings.

You can use a tweak for bypassing the lockscreen, called 'NoLockScreen'.
You'll need a jailbreak for this.

Guess my question wasn't clear, but probably I just need to disable it.

My point was the "slide to unlock" was being bypassed and I don't want it to be. I thought for sure it hadn't been before with the smart cover, but perhaps I'm remembering wrong. Thanks anyhow.
