How can I read my iBooks on my iMac?

How do I read my iBooks on my iMac? I can see them in iTunes, but I don't know how to open them. I want to read them on my giant 27" iMac screen, instead of my iPad. Please help!

iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Quad Core, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

If you can find the original file (does itunes give you the Show original or Show in finder? I'm not sure).

I beleive they are just epub files and you would need a program (google for them, theres a few out there) that can read them on the mac.

Can I be alone in thinking that this is disgraceful on Apple's part. Having converted my entire family to Apple and purchasing 3 ipod touches, 1 Pad, 1 Iphone 4 and 1 £1400.00 imac, and then bought the content (from Apple), it is ridiculous that I can't view that content on my imac. I hope Apple can sort these irritations out - it cant be that hard. I hope others read these posts before committing fully to Apple, because now and again I am asking myself whether life was just a little bit easier in the world of Windows, which is a real shame - because on the whole Apple products are so good.

Yeah, that doesn't work for me. I need iBook for the functions (highlight in different colors, speech to text, audio capability, etc). I find it very disgraceful on Apple's part and somewhat annoying. I hope they change it soon. We are very loyal to Apple -- we have an iMac and MacBook, 4 iPods and 1 iPad. I'd like to have books on all of them in iBook.

So why are you telling me? I can't do anything about it. Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

But i have already purchased a lot of books form itunes. so what, now i cant read those on an apple product that cost me £1400.00. Me and JodiMH are not alone in feeling this even if you are not. Look around the forums there are lots of people making exactly the same point. I would prefer to buy and use my content in an Apple product, and I dont want to have to rebuy what I already have. I really dont think it would be that difficult for the world's biggest company to make a reader for its computer!

And I don't think JodiMH was responding to you personally...It was just a comment on this thread.

They responded to me directly by hitting the Reply button to my post. However, it doesn't really matter. The larger point, that fellow users can't solve the issue and that, the more people who submit feedback to Apple using the appropriate channel, the greater the likelihood that Apple will make the change, still holds.
