Importing eBooks via Apple Configurator

Hi Folks.

I'm a sys admin for the local school district, I'm playing with Configurator, and realizing it's potential.

However, I seem to have hit a snag...

  • I've downloaded free apps in iTunes, and imported them into Configurator with no problem.
  • I've added documents to my users in Configurator without problems.
  • But I can't find a way to add the free eBook I've downloaded in iTunes.

iBooks is not a valid App to which to add documents. If I try to import the epub file as I would an ipa, I only get a spinning wheel and the word "importing" forever....

I'm running version 1.0.1. Is this a bug? Or feature???

It would be a real shame if we couldn't load our text books via Configurator...

Thanks.

iBooks content cannot be loaded via Configurator; the same holds true for music and video. I believe this is due to DRM limitations. Even if the epubs are free, such as CK12 textbooks, I guess there is no way of differentiating these from DRM protected content in iBooks, so nothing gets loaded. The paid iBooks textbooks need to be allocated to individual apple ids in the organization. Its not a bug - but it sure bugs me.
