My iPad mini is unable to connect to my home wifi network after iOS 7.1.2 update? However it still connect to my iPhone hotspot. Does any one have the same problem? or have a solution for this problem? Many thanks.

Try some basic WiFi troubleshooting on your iPad. But before I would do any of that, I would reset the iPad and see if it will connect. No data will be lost.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

Thanks Demo for your reply. I have tried the following but not successful in solving this problems:

1. Reset the iPad network settings

2. Reset all setting

3. Erase all content and setting

4. Reset my BigPond router

5. Restoring my iPad from iTune with USB cable.

By the way, my daughter iPad mini has not been updated with iOS 7.1.2 is still connected to the home wifi network fine. So, it is not the router compatibility problem.

I don't doubt that it's not the router ....... but I have seen so many instances where rebooting the router solves network problems even if you have 10 other devices that can connect to the network.

I realize that resetting all settings and/or restoring the device, should resolve the issue - if the issue is software related. The fact that the iPad connects to the phone hotspot would seem to indicate that the hardware is OK as well, or it wouldn't connect at all.

I don't think this will do any good but did you try forgetting the network? Have you tried connecting to another WiFi network at all? Not the hotspots but another WiFi network. Have you tried turning off the hotspot feature on the phone to "force" the iPad to look for the home network?

Sep 1, 2014 6:20 AM in response to Demo

Yes, I have taken my iPad to work today and tried to connect it to the work wifi, but it still cannot connect. I have also done the "forgetting this network" too. I only found out that the iPad was able to connect to the phone hotspot because I wanted to turn off "find my iPad" feature so I can do the iTune factory reset.

Yes I did mentioned that I have reboot my router as well. Still doesn't work.

I'm sorry, but I am at a loss now. But I reread our discussion form the beginning again and I noticed something that I think I misunderstood. You said that your daughter has not updated to iOS. 7.1.2 and she can still connect to your network. Has anybody else that is running iOS 7.1.2 been able to connect to your home network?

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Unable to Connect After iOS Update - saw this solution on another post.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

NNo apologies necessary. This is a worldwide support forum and the fact that users are in different time zones is just another challenge along the way. 🙂

When you tap the blue "I" next to your home Wifi network name, you should see Renew Lease almost at the very bottom of the window. This is the same window where you will see Forget This Network at the top.

Sep 3, 2014 6:57 AM in response to Demo

After reading the links Tom provided, I was able to change the channel in my router and was able to pick up the home Wifi for a short period, I was able to activate the Renew Lease button. However, the Wifi does not connect to the internet. So until now I 'm still unable to connect to my home Wifi. Such a disappointed iOS 7.1.2 update, it renders my iPad unusable!! 😟😮😟

Many thanks for your input so far.

Hi Demo and Tom,

After trying every suggestions available, I decided to head to the Genius bar and got Apple staff to check it out. I got a replacement iPad as there would have been a fault in the hardware and was told that it may not have anything to do with the iOS 7.1.2 update. I updated my daughter iPad mini and her one did not have the same problem.

Many thanks again for all your support advice.

Have a good day.
