Pages and iBooks disappeared after sync

I bought pages and downloaded the free iBooks apps. Used them yesterday, everything was fine. I hooked into my MacBook air, 10.6.3, opened iTunes and ipad sync then noticed back on the iPad the pages app that I paid for by the way, and the iBook apps are no longer on the iPad.

Are they deleted?

I hope I don't have to pay for pages again.

Any ideas?

Update:
I went over to "apps" and Pages and iBooks was not showing as installed as they were before. Here's the strange part: I downloaded iBooks again, opened up iBooks, opened up Winnie the pooh and it opened to the exact page that I left off a few minutes before. Not at the beginning as one would think.

So, what happened? I still don't have pages and don't know if I download pages again I'll get charged for it.

Wow this is weird.

Ok I went into the apps store and hit the "buy" button then crossed my fingers. The next prompt was the re-install prompt. So therefore, if the apps disappear after sync, the store checks to see of you had purchased the app first before it charges you. Whew!

Thanks StuartJ257 for your help.

I still think the apps should not disappear and one should not have to go to re-install after a sync.

But that is strange that apps disappear like that.

Not if the iPad was authorised/setup on a different computer in the first place. Plugging in any Apple device into a second computer will wipe the content from the first machine, or that downloaded directly if you do not do File=> Transfer Purchases.

Page 89 of the manual for how.

This is one of the limitations that has always been there but is being exacerbated by people getting their iPads authorised in store and not syncing at home before buying - quite understandable given the hype though !

A normal sync should not do this. I agree that if you change computers, it will wipe it. If i were to plug my iphone into my computer (the one it is synced with) and apps disappear, that would be odd. The original poster did not give any hints that the machines were different, and before you sync it, it will ask you to confirm that you want to wipe the contents and replace the music/apps/etc on the device with ones from this library.

I have the same problem. My iPad has only been synced with my computer. But, when I plug it in, iTunes app display for the device looks like an iPhone. I have an iPhone too.

This is a serious bug. I was left hanging in a meeting today when documents that I had loaded into GoodReader were not available because GoodReader had been deleted during my last sync (happened twice now).

Until this is fixed, I will pay close attention to what iTunes thinks is connected before I hit the sync button.

BTW, when I restored GoodReader (along with the other missing apps), the documents that I had transferred earlier to GoodReader were not there.

I thought this stuff only happened in Windows! 😉
