Is this keyboard layout anything like we've seen before?

I'm starting to get better at it, one thing is just pretending the arrow is a regular shift key and holding it while I keystroke the cap I want.

Other than that, the only other issue I have is getting to the apostrophe. I use it more than the exclamation mark, so I think it would be better there and move the ! To the other set of keys.

Any other tips on using the keyboard?

I'm actually surprised at how quickly I can type with two thumbs in portrait mode.

The main thing that puzzles me is that the backspace (X) key is in the upper right, whereas on the iPhone - where I type a LOT - it's in the lower right. That's going to take some getting used to.

I am getting a lot better at typing on it. The first few times I was touching above the keyboard and making the keyboard drop back down by accident. But now I am getting use to the feel of it.

I keep missing the space bar too.

Yeah, seems to be two ways to go about it then. One, like the iPhone, and two like a regular keyboard. Each way is a little different than it's counterpart.

Honestly, iam so happy that I am amazingly good at typing on the iPad. I can type very fast and I almost never make any mistakes. And I have typed many 4+ page essays for school and it's remarkable how good the keyboard is for me.

Portrait mode is doable with two thumbs with decent WPM, despite having to stretch over that 1" black border just to get to the keys. Landscape mode -- not so much. You either have to type with one hand or put the iPad down so you can type comfortably with two hands. Having to put it down is kind of a fail for a device meant to be a handheld, though.

I doubt it would ever happen but I'd love to see a split keyboard in landscape -- smaller keys with half on the left and half on the right which I think would make two-handed typing-while-holding feasible in landscape. $0.02
