questions for the iPad

my mom just bought an ipad. she is using my old ibook. because it isn't an intel pc it cannot be updated with the latest OS software. so, she is pretty much out of luck syncing her new iPad with her laptop. is there a way (trick) to get her pictures/music off the laptop onto the iPad without syncing? probably not, but had to ask. other than, putting her stuff on my laptop and syncing and then i get rid of the stuff she wants. also, with the music that she has already downloaded to iTunes but is on her laptop, can she sign into iTunes on her iPad and re-download them? ok... another question, when updates for the iPads software comes out, she doesn't have to sync it to a computer right? she can just download it from her iPad????

thanks.

MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

You could still go to leopard if you could find a cheap copy - there's anothe thread here on the subject.

You guessed correctly - no is the answer.

Yes, as long as they are not paid Apps bought against your account.

App updates - Yes, but OS updates have to be done with the computer against which it was activated/last synced to which would be your computer.

A good reason to visit your Mum when the time comes. !

Don't know if this would be too much for her, but you could look into PhoneView, which was just updated for the iPad. You can run the last version of Tiger (10.4.11) and still have access to the iPad, although it's more like coming in from the back door, and not everything will sync. But she could enter address book contacts and stuff on the iPad and still be able to access them on the iBook; you could drag music and stuff over to it form the iBook too..
