NO. Do not use Mywi.
Get iTether. It's 5$. Allows tethering over Bluetooth (ALOT better on battery).

If you do not have native tethering on your iPhone, use TetherMe (2$)

Bluetooth is great option. I have both options mentioned installed and I find the MyWi set up to create a much faster connection. Probably true on battery drain.

itether

I jailbroke my iPad and installed itether for $5. Since I live in Canada the iPhone 4 allows for tethering free of charge (except for the iPad). So I share my 6gb iphone 4 plan with my iPad for no additional charge. Bluetooth works great, no dropouts, and the iPhone's battery lasts a lot longer than using MyWi.

I'm confused. I got it to work from my home wifi but when I'm on the go and no wifi is available, only 3G on my phone, how do I connect? My iPad is the wifi only version.

What are you trying to tether to?

MyWi can tether to any unjailbroken iPad or iPod touch.

The options above require to jailbreak iPad and install iTether on it, then install TetherMe on iPhone, then you can only connect to that single device.

Also from reading, it seems MyWi has a faster connection but more battery drain.

ipad/iphone in a limited number of situations.
I'm not concerned about one needing to be jailbroken or not as both devices are jailbroken.

MiWi makes a hot spot with more connection opportunities, itether and tether me are just between the two devices and battery is not bad at all with tether me. Been using this for quite awhile with no problems at all with SBToggle. Both need to be jailbroken for tetherme though. Just do it :D

I have an ipad wi-fi version and like to tether to the iphone. But here is my questions, the iphone does not have internet tethering service subscribed (only have ATT $25 2GB data plan for the iphone itself). In this case, can I do what you said by installing the jailbreak "tether me" app on iphone and jailbraek "itether" app on ipad to have the ipad tethering to iphone without paying ATT internet tethering service? Is it how you've been doing?

Thanks.

Yes that's exactly how its done, but be careful not to go over your 2GB cap on your iPhone data plan.

Thanks.
Regarding not go over 2GB cap.... Does iphone show data usage being used by the ipad via Wi-fi like you natively using data on iphone itself? Where I can check data usage when using tethering?

Thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to have tethering activated on your phone for this?

I too am looking for a way to tether my iPhone 4 to my iPad Wifi. I do not want to Jailbreak my phone, but I would be willing to JB my iPad if I had to.

I have been using the iProxy source code app but it is very limited as it requires an Adhoc network to initiate the tethering. Basically you have to have a laptop with you to start it which limits its "portability" greatly.

If there were an app for iPad that would allow me to create an adhoc network on it I might be able to do that and use iProxy on my iPhone.

Yes, you need tethering enabled on your phone.
If you don't have tethering on your phone, then you have to do one of the following.
1. Purchase TetherMe for iphone and itether for ipad. Both must be jb.
2. Buy MyWi for iphone. This creates a wifi hotspot from your phone. Phone must be jb.

Regarding battery drain using MyWi on the iPhone 4. MyWi has a output power setting that is set by default at 80 percent. This is easily turned down to 35-40 percent and is quite usable if the two devices are within a couple feet of each other and the battery issue then quickly becomes nonexistent.

Thanks for this reminder.... I find the minimum setting, 30%, gives four bars of signal when the two devices are close.

I also have iTether and TetherMe, but cannot get them to work on my 3GS.

That was great advice thank you for sharing. I would have never noticed.

Hello guys, I am an iPhone user and I was thinking about buying an iPad.

Can you guys confirm me that if I have a NON-jailbroken iPhone who has the ability to tether to a mac or pc, then if I jailbreak the iPad only I could still tether iPhone to iPad?
Has any of you guys done it?

Thanks

I know everyone is saying how bad the battery life is with MiWi but could someone give real numbers as to how bad it affects it. Right now my iPhone can go a day and a half on battery. 36hrs, if I installed miWi what am I looking at? 5-6 hours. I would need this to run for the entire workday which sometimes gets to be 12+hours. Also I see that some folks have mentioned that you can turn the power down, to those of you doing this what kind of battery life improvements did you see? (1-2hrs), more? To those that have used both, what kind of speed difference are we talking about. Thanks for the replies.
