My little sister bought an iPad 2 (Verizon 3G) to help her with school. Multiple times she has had a problem where none of her applications start when she selects them from the home screen. The screen simply fades out and then fades back in to the home screen.

The iPad is a pretty standard configuration with the usual apps, except she has an application called Proloquo2 to help her communicate (she's autistic).

She has done a hard reset a couple of times to no avail. It will work for a couple of days and then the problem reemerges. Any feedback would be AWESOME!

Try restoring it to original condition and then reloading all the apps.

Take it in . . .

Take it in to an Apple store, if one is nearby. It's a good excuse to go to the store, but more importantly:
1. this may be a known hardware problem and they'll give you a new one on the spot (happened to me);

2. they may try a software fix (restore, restart, etc.). Either this will work (great!) or if it doesn't, you can take back in a few weeks later. At that point they'll have a record that their software fix doesn't work and they may be more likely to give you a new one (this also happened to me).

Haven't had this problem or seen it, but you might be helping her more if the iPad is taken to the apple store or at least if you phone AppleCare. Worst case scenario you need to send it to them so they can fix it.
