Sharing Internet provided by USB modem and iPhone tethering on Macbook
• i am getting my 64GB wifi+3G iPad soon. i would be visiting the part of the world where there is no 3G network provider for iPad. however, iPhone 3G would be supported. i will have my macbook running OS X tiger with me and i tether my iPhone to it. my question : can i use the tethered internet connection on iPad via the macbook's wifi port?
• also i use a USB modem to connect to the mobile internet network on macbook. can i share this connection with ipad?
• please detail the setup for the above 2 scenarios.
• i don't want my iPhone 3G to be jailbroken.
Macbook, Macbook Pro, iPad,
iOS 4,
OS X Tiger and Leopard
You might be able to get a sim for a local provider when you're there and cut it down to fit. It's well-documented to work.
Or get a portable 3G to wi-fi device, which takes any 3G sim, similar to the Three Mi-Fi. The device connects via 3G, and then hosts your own wifi network, to which the iPad and macbook can connect. This option is closer to your USB modem idea
Are you saying that if I have an iPhone 4 and a wi-fi only iPad, that I can use the iPhone to get the iPad onto the internet in areas where there is no wi-fi available? If that is so, would you please explain how to do that, as the above link describes a different configuration. Thank you.
i'm currently at the office and my macbook is at home, so i cant put on a guide myself.
i found this guide for sharing ethernet internet connection over wifi, sharing a tethered iphone is the same, you should choose the iphone connection instead of the ethernet.
