New Ipad owner- first Apple product ever. Installed the ABC player app and noticed that it will not switch to landscape mode when I rotate the Ipad. The Netflix app does- is this normal?

Videos will play full-screen when in landscape. In portrait, video plays in the top half. The library UI is portrait only.

It should work in both portrait and landscape when you're watching an actual show, but when browsing the menu of shows and episodes it works only in portrait.

Make sure you haven't accidentally hit the accelerometer lock switch.

Thanks- have not watched a show yet- just noticed that the menu page would not rotate- sounds like that is normal!

By the way, I am very pleased with my new toy- only using wi-fi so far. One strange thing is happening, though. My wi-fi strength meter keeps dropping down to nothing, BUT I notice no slow down at all with the actual connection. I think the meter symbol is jusy flaky.

So you make a post about a feature you didn't even try to do? I don't quite understand that one.

Yeah, the menu screen is fixed in portrait mode but once you select a video you can watch in landscape or portrait.

Well, it is not exactly intuitive that the actual show will rotate when the menu won't. Gotta love people with nothing to do but waste their time putting others down. To the rest of you- thanks!

also....if you wish to watch in portrait, once the player has loaded simply pinch/stretch the video, it will get rid of the menus and play in the centre of the screen
