iPad Air keeps dropping Internet connection

Hi all, new here but with an old problem I'm afraid.

Ever since I replaced my old iPad with this current Air I've been experiencing problems with the connection to our BT Homehub wireless router.

I never had any connection problems with my previous iPad, also both of our iPhones, another earlier iPad and a couple of laptops are also not a problem.

So, the issue with my Air. When just web browsing it wasn't a problem, it used to just stop doing anything when I tried to download a film from Sky for example or apps from the App Store. Although it suggested it was connected to the Internet it just used to stop the download and I'd just get the spinny circle at the top of the screen. This happened fairly regularly and was resolved by switching the Wi-Fi off and on again in settings.

However, now I've updated it to the current IOS it's worse, now locking up when browsing and on occasion I've has to switch it off and back on. Some times it suggests it's lost the Wi-Fi connection but more often it just stops receiving data and just freezes the page?

Anyone any ideas?

Another member with the same router has had some success by turning off the 5 GHz band.

I've been having some slowdown problems, and they seem to be fixed by changing the channel of the 5 GHz band. But it hasn't been long enough to be sure.

Same problem here, also with BT Homehub 5

Same problem here, also with BT Homehub 5. How do you change the channel of the 5 GHz band?

That's great, thanks. Strangely mine had this issue before it was on IOS8, however updating it has made it worse. I'll try the router settings.

I don't own one of these, so I can't help. Here is the other thread. Maybe the the OP (Original Poster) can help. Or you're owners manual, or the manufacturer's support site. Sorry.

Good luck.
Thanks, but they don't give you a manual, only a help app. For some reason my wife's iPad 2, which works fine, is on the 2.4GHz band, and my iPad Air is on the 5GHz band and constantly dropping out. I can't find any way to force the iPad to change bands. I have just changed the 5GHz channel on the router from automatic to 10 to see if that helps.

Someone's already linked you to a thread about switching to 2.4 ghz. The other things that seem to have worked for some are disabling WiFi Networking and/or going to Google DNS or OpenDNS. Mine's still slow and still gets warm when browsing over WiFi but not having a problem with dropped WiFi so haven't had to try any of these fixes yet.

This is mostly likely caused by how your router is set up. iPad Air doesn't support AC mode so if you're connecting to a 5GHz network then make sure it sets to "Auto" instead of "AC only" or "AC/N".

Could be his issue since he said he was having problems before installing iOS 8. But, the vast majority of people now having issues with WiFi connectivity had iPads that were working flawlessly on iOS 7. The problems developed immediately after the "upgrade" to iOS 8. So, unless iOS 8 changed everyone's router settings, it doesn't explain why so many are having problems with WiFi connectivity after the "upgrade".

For some reason my iPad is sometimes on the 2.4GHz band and sometimes on the 5GHz band and both suffer from dropping out, often after a few seconds. I have the 5GHz setting at Auto although I tried it at "10" and it made no difference. Before the IOS8 (now 8.2) it was fine.

Something else to try is if you have Location services turned ON is to turn OFF wifi networking. I've read where people have corrected some connectivity issues doing this. Of course, if you don't have location services turned on then you won't see this option.
