Getting Canon S90 CR2 files off my iPad to my PC

Using the camera connection kit, I transferred a number of Canon S90 CR2 files to my iPad. That worked fine as it always does.

But how do I get them onto my PC?

Canon Camera Window says it does not find any "camera", when the iPad is plugged in.

Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Scanner and Camera Wizards do not recognise CR2 files.

Nikon Transfer finds jpeg and NEF files, but obviously not CR2 files.

Is there any trick I have missed, or any other software I should try?

The CR2 files display well on the iPad, and I can open them in for example Filterstorm to convert them to jpeg, but that is not really a solution long term.

I have not really understood the Dropbox concept to be honest.

Isn't it about saving all your data in the cloud? If so, transferring 100M of pictures from my iPad to my PC via the internet seems a roundabout solution.

Even so, I failed to find a way to locate the CR2 files using Dropbox. From the Photos application, I can select only one picture at a time for export, and I find no export option to Dropbox.

From Dropbox, I can find a way to add pictures from my Saved Photos, but not from the photos retrieved using the camera kit. Am I missing something here too?

To upload photo from DropBox, go to My DropBox in the DropBox app. at the bottom is an icon of a camera. Touch that and you will get option to upload Existing Photo or Video (you also may get other options too). If you touch that option it will bring up your Saved photo and you select the one you want to upload.

I also remember that there was an app that allowed transferring multiple photos but I do not remember its name.

For some cameras, there is a thumbnail jpg within the raw file. If you export what you see you should also export the raw file. IN GoodReader do you see the photo you want to transfer off the iPad?

Goodreader? Where did that come from? What does Goodreader do that can help me bulk transfer CR2 files from the iPad to my PC?

If the questions is "how do I work with the CR2 files on a PC" (e.g. you are able to transfer them from iPad to the PC), then you should look for the CD you've received with your S90. On the CD you'll (among other things) find Canon's Digital Professional Software (DPP). That does exactly what's supposed - take CR2 files and process them. Updates for the software can be downloaded from the support section of the Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/).

I can confirm that this works with Lightroom 3.3 on a PC, with Canon CR2 files. On the iPad, use the camera connection kit to import your photos. Later, start Lightroom and connect your ipad to the PC. Start Import in Lightroom. The iPad will appear as a device (be patient) and you can then import as normal. Only Imported Folders and Saved Photo folders will appear.

A simpler way though is to connect your ipad to the PC and use Explorer. Quit iTunes. The iPad should be listed under Computer. Click on that, then Internal STORAGE, then DCIM. the folders listed with cryptic names such as 800AAAA are for Saved Photos, Current Import, etc.

You cannot see your synched photos, but then why would you want to?
