Tap Settings in your Home screen. Then tap Safari. Clear the History / Cookies and the Cache.
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
So open up the wireless connection you have (click the little blue arrow on the right) and see what the IP address is - I'm guessing it starts with 169....
It would appear that you are having the same problem that everyone else is having considering that you updated to the latest software 4.2.1. See the discussion titled +WiFi/Internet Incredibly slow after iOS 4.2 Upgrade Pages+
Try restating your router, unplug then plug it back in.
One thing I found interesting last night. My Internet went down for five hours. My iPad showed I still had full signal. I disconnected the router from my cable Internet box. I still had a full signal. This told me that the icon in the upper left next to the word iPad only shows signal strength and does not mean that the iPad is connected to the Internet.
So, check your ethernet cables and also restart your cable modem box too...
And "everyone else" isn't having a problem. My iPad with 4.2.1 has absolutely no problems with wireless connection nor speed. Please do not claim a global problem when it is not the case (a number of people here reporting a problem does not make it global).
A number of people? Are you kidding me... the last few days, there is a huge "number of people" having issues with wifi connectivity. Before you attack me for trying to point out that the problem could possibly be the new upgrade maybe you should read through the wifi discussion boards...
Crjunkin: Terribly sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Ipad. I certainly hope that you are not having the same problems that "a few of us" are having. Hope you resolve your issue!
I've looked at every one of those threads. Even if you postulate that every post is a new one (not the same person posting back), and that every post is from someone that is having a problem, and that ten people have problems for every one that has posted, that still only adds up to a few thousand out of the millions of iPad sold. And for many of those who have posted, there have been solutions found.
That doesn't mean that there aren't problems, but it does not justify the inflated claim in your post. So when you jump into a thread with a claim that is not only inapplicable to the original poster's issue but claims that a problem is global when it's not, then yes, I'm going to contradict you. If you want to consider a contradiction an "attack", then that's your choice.
Yes, it is. If you can take your rose-coloured iGlasses off for a moment and read the thread about wireless issues with 4.2, you'll find this problem is consistent with the hundreds of other complaints.
Hi Graham, just found your post on this subject and I am having the same problems with my IPAD with full wifi signal but no internet, and my IP address starts with 169, but my work laptop is working OK using the same wifi? I couldn't see your further comments - did you have any more info?
