How do I bookmark a link in Safari on iPad?

The question is a bit more trickier than it sounds at first.

The problem is, I can't just open the link and then add it.

It's a "What's new" link in a forum and once you click it it changes from the actual generic link to a specific search ID link which then is pointless to bookmark

So I need to somehow copy and paste the generic link into the bookmark in Safari on iPad.

Any ideas?

This does not happen. It should save the actual link, from which you are saving the bookmark. Try resetting the iPad, (press and hold the power and home button simultaneously for some time until Apple logo appears.)

Of course it happens.

Take the What's New link from this very forum:

Code:
http://www.ipadforums.net/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post

If you click on the link: http://www.ipadforums.net/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post

it will immediately turn into a specific search ID to show you the postings that were created after your last visit.

The final link looks like this (for me, in this minute): http://www.ipadforums.net/search.php?searchid=4530883

If I click on the original link in a day or so, I get a completely new search ID.

On a PC I can simply copy the original link or drag'n'drop it into a bookmarks folder.

And while on iPad I can at least copy the link, I can't seem to find a way to paste the link in the bookmarks.

Sorry, but I have to ask: what happens if you save the search link? Does it run the search when you open the bookmark or do you get an error?

I know that I can make a bookmark of a Google search, if that's any help...

No but it opens that specific search result. From that user, that day, that minute.

If I bookmark this link now it has the results of what happened until now since my last visit. If I open the bookmark link with this search Id tomorrow, it'll still show me what happened until now - but not what happened between now and tomorrow.

I know that I can make a bookmark of a Google search, if that's any help...

That's because the Google URL still contains the original search phrases and not (basically) the result.

1. Press and hold on the link, then choose Copy from the popup menu.

2. Tap the link to go to that page.

3. Bookmark the page in the normal manner.

4. Edit the bookmark, pasting in the copied generic URL to replace the existing specific one.

Hey, that worked like a charm, thank you so much! :)
