I can't find a simple WI FI signal strength meter that works on my Mini iPad. I need to test signals around my house as there are weak areas. Xirrus won't download.

iOS doesn't give developers the kind of detailed access to the wi-fi radio needed to create this kind of app. If it exists, it will only be for jailbroken devices.

I looked up Xirrus. If I found the app you are talking about, it is for Windows. It will not work in iOS. With few exceptions, you can not download and use apps from websites. If they do not specifically say they are for the iPhone, iPad, or other iOS devices, they will not work on your iPad. iOS apps that do work from websites are web apps, and with very few exceptions need an internet connection to work.

About all you can do with the iPad is walk around (slowly) looking at the signal icon at the top left. It's not great, but it will give you an idea of where the strongest and weakest areas are.

Sorry.

Thanks for the info twerppoet. Today I borrowed my daughters laptop, downloaded Xirrus on it and did a walk round the house. I now have a good idea where the signal is weakest. I'm going to set up a TP-link repeater which should give good coverage over most of the area. Thanks again, Dave.

No problem.

Please come back and let us know what happens. A few members have posted problems setting up range extenders, and it would help to hear how it goes for you. Not that you will necessarily have problems. We rarely hear from those who get things to work the first time. ;)

A wi-fi signal analyzer app is one of the few things I missed when I gave up my Droid X for an iPhone. More because I like cool tools than actually needing it. I got it back when I picked up a Nexus 7 on sale. I still don't need it, but it comes in handy when I try justifying the cost of a second tablet to myself. And it's cool. :D

twerppoet, Hi, I managed to install my TP-link wr702n in router mode after many attempts today. It's not as simple as some people suggest. First ignore the written instructions that come with it also the small instruction cd, I tried to follow those & they just would not install properly. I finally managed to get results by going to:- (link follows, as my post count is only 2, needs to be 3) go to install as a router & follow instructions. This worked for me OK. I get good coverage over most of the house, good for my several internet radios.
