using Logmein for Ipad

When I set up this application, does my logmein on my PC have to be switched on and left enabled all the time for the Ipad logmein to work and give me access to my computer? Don't want anyone hacking into my PC if Logmein is always enabled.
Thnx for maybe a foolish question.

LogMeIn is a service that allows you to connect to and control another computer, so obviously the computer has to be up and running or there's nothing to which to connect. Some PCs allow remote bootup from being turned off, but I don't know if LogMeIn or any associated utility has such a feature. LogMeIn Pro says it supports Wake-On-LAN if your computer supports it, but I can't tell if the iPad version does. You may need to follow that question up with LogMeIn.

Regards.

It's certainly something to keep aware of, but I've not heard of any security issues with LogMeIn (we use it where I work on many of our workstations and have never had an issue with anyone hacking in via LogMeIn). So as long as you exercise normal security precautions - password not easy to guess, changing the password on a regular basis, not letting anyone else know your password, etc. - I think you'll be OK.

Of course, if you were to lose your iPad, you'd want to take immediate steps to ensure that your PC remains secure. I presume that the iPad version doesn't store passwords, but were your iPad to indeed go walkabout, you'd want to change the password on your PC right away just to be safe.

If you just need access to your files and don't actually need to control your PC, you might instead want to look into one of the on-line file sharing services such as Dropbox. You keep the documents you wish to share on such a service rather than on your computer, so you have access to them just about anywhere. Then you wouldn't have to worry about security for your PC at all.

Regards.
